Business Intelligence and Performance Analyst
Salary: £34,500 – £36,500 per annum
Located: Doncaster
Hours:- Monday to Friday (2 days office, 3 days home)
Job Purpose:
To support SLH’s commitment to business intelligence by working with services to improve, transform and innovate, securing external accreditation where relevant and appropriate.
To work with the Senior Management Team, Team Leaders and front-line staff to embed business intelligence, benchmarking and performance management in their respective service areas.
To have lead responsibility for the organisation’s Business Intelligence tool, including daily monitoring, development, system administration and implementation of continuous improvements to the Business Intelligence Framework (currently Qlik Sense and NPrinting and going forward MS PowerBI) including troubleshooting and resolving issues.
To facilitate understanding of business performance by providing developing and maintaining the SLHD Performance Management Framework, producing and analysing performance information and other statistical data in order to assist with decision making within the business in order to drive forward service improvement and transformation.
Day to day duties and responsibilities:
1. To manage and deliver specific analysis, working with the senior management team and operational staff to examine the actions that could be taken in response to trend analysis and underlying causes, in order to further improve performance.
2. To implement, develop, maintain and produce accurate and intuitive reporting dashboards, utilising the business intelligence tool platform (MS PowerBI) for the organisation’s Key Performance Indicators, benchmarking and ad hoc reporting requests.
3. To undertake scenario modelling to identify the likely impact of recommendations made to further improve business decision making and to assist in developing target and tolerance levels for Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
4. To work with colleagues across the organisation to establish service area performance and to identify ways of measuring the impact of changes in services, procedures, regulations, legislation in order to analyse outcomes to continually improve and embed the performance management framework.
5. To assist in embedding MS PowerBI across the organisation, supporting all areas with training and additional guidance when and where needed.
6. Drawing on detailed business information from internal and external sources, to assist carrying out preliminary analysis of systems / service areas in order to plan and organise the necessary resources (internal staff; materials; time / duration of review; external support).
7. To ensure the timely and accurate submission of legislative, regulatory and other returns.
8. Produce appropriate business information, utilising the business intelligence reporting tool (MS PowerBI), in formats that will maximise engagement from stakeholders, this will include detailed, complex and accurate statistical and financial analysis.
9. To proactively seek out opportunities for innovation and improvement based on analysing Performance information.
10. To work with the Head of Finance and Governance Service Manager to continually improve the performance management framework, ensuring that it delivers comprehensive, accurate and relevant analysed data which meets internal needs and any external requirements. This includes regular reporting to all stakeholders. It also includes ensuring that detailed performance analysis is undertaken and provided to service managers in identifying key performance issues and probable causes of any underperformance through detailed reports and ongoing, supportive collaborative working.
11. To produce robust and accurate performance information to required timescales, making maximum use of automation and IT systems.
12. Working closely with the ICT department to ensure that the data collection accuracy of data and storage systems are secure and robust.
13. Work in a way that demonstrates the clients Values and Behaviours in practice.
14. Work flexibly in the interests of the service – this may include undertaking other duties provided that these are appropriate to the duties and responsibilities of the post.
15. The Safeguarding of children and adults is paramount to everything the client delivers. All staff are expected to undergo training and then to identify and report all safeguarding concerns through the appropriate channels.
The successful candidate:
Essential:
16. To be educated to ‘A’ level standard or equivalent in a relevant subject (i.e. Mathematics, Statistics) OR To have equivalent, relevant work-based experience
17. To demonstrate the ability to research and assimilate large volumes of data and intelligence and preparation and production of complex research-based reports.
18. Knowledge of all the key elements required for an effective performance management framework; knowledge of the use of performance information to drive business improvement and transformation (including data modelling).
19. Experience of script writing and developing reports and queries in a Business Intelligence platform (MS Power BI). Using SQL or similar, developing automated reporting processes and presenting information in different formats – graphically, charts, mapping etc. and conducting presentations/ briefings outlining findings/results/recommendations from analysis undertaken.
20. Extensive knowledge and understanding of the use of industry standard software such as, Microsoft Office products etc.
21. Knowledge and experience of good practices for handling confidential data, in line with the UK Data Protection Act, GDPR, and other relevant legislation
22. Experience of using performance measures to work with and influence colleagues to use information to help drive forward service improvement and transformation and of monitoring and reporting on the impact.
23. Extensive experience of developing and applying Business Intelligence tools in performance frameworks
Desirable:
24. Educated to degree level in a relevant subject area or NVQ equivalent or significant relevant business or research experience
25. Experience of submission of benchmarking data, clubs, tools and processes in particular cost benchmarking and statutory returns.
