Head of Sales
Salary £40,000 + £500 per week room sales bonus based
Hours 45 hours per week
Based Matfen Hall Country Hotel, Spa and Golf Estate with oversight of sales at Matfen Hall and Chesters Stables.
Reporting to Head of Commercial Development
Overview: Matfen Hall is a privately owned five-star country house 63-bedroom hotel, spa, and golf course. Converted to a Hotel in 1999, Matfen Hall was purchased by Sir David and Lady Sylvia Harrison and Family in August 2020.
Since the takeover in 2020, a programme of refurbishment and repositioning of Matfen Hall has taken place, with further investment to follow. Having been recently awarded Five Star Status by the AA, Matfen Hall has been come the first and only Hotel to achieve this level in Northumberland. As Head of Sales, you will be tasked with driving the sales performance at Matfen Hall. Working in tandem with the Head of Marketing and the Head of Groups and Events, you will be responsible for achieving weekly sales performance targets, based on room sales. Our business has multiple revenue streams across the estate, all contributing in various ways to our guest experience and to our financial performance. The constraint to the delivering these objectives is the effective selling of rooms across all categories in the Hotel.
You will work closely with the Head of Commercial Development; however, in your role you will also have regular meetings with our board of Directors and the owners. This will involve presenting our sales performance and articulating the activity both proactive and reactive to accelerate this performance.
Weekly we will review pace of bookings, gaps in business and daily sales generation.
Head of Sales Responsibilities:
Overall responsibility for proactive and reactive sales activity, driving revenue across all areas with a primary focus on the generation and conversion of room sales.
Play an active part in the creation of budgets, forecasts and on-going analysis of sales figures
Work with the Head of Guest Relations to create a proactive sales culture across the team of guest relations staff, through sharing results, creating incentives, rewarding good performance and challenging poor performance
Closely monitor the hotels business reports daily and take decisions accordingly.
Forage for bookings via luxury travel agents, wholesalers and private clients by visiting their offices, entertaining and visiting clients in the Hotel and offsite. With particular focus on London, Manchester and Edinburgh.
Ensure the sales team are fully briefed on all properties and cross sell whenever possible.
In creating the desired sales through service culture, there should be an acceptance that we are results driven business and that every opportunity should be explored, maximised and developed.
Close working with management structure to ensure consistent induction and training of new starters.
Support the management structure in compliance with relevant legalisation, Occupational Health & Safety Act, fire regulations and other legal requirements including GDPR
The primary objective of this role is to drive sales, with particular emphasis on the here and now. Achieving our budgetary aims and objectives will provide the necessary throughput to break and manage future constraints.
PREREQUISITES: The ideal candidate is a seasoned and highly intelligent sales professional with an out and out drive for sales, the salary and bonus structure are intentionally designed to attract an individual who will confidently achieve their targets and generate generous bonuses. Available to work when needed, including weekends, holidays, and nights on a 5 out of 7 rota.
EDUCATION: Experience in resort hotel with a proven track record in Sales growth. Excellent computer, financial, and business leadership skills.
EXPERIENCE: Ideally 5 years experience in the luxury setting with hospitality industry at a management level and above.
