The Team and Role
Our Consulting Highways teams impact the journeys of millions across the UK, by working in partnership with a range of clients on both major design projects and local network improvements. Transport Scotland have awarded Amey the North East Trunk Road Network Management Contract and the South West Trunk Road Network Management Contract. You will assist the design of some of the largest civil engineering and associated infrastructure projects in Scotland. With a cumulative value in excess of £1bn, these long-term contracts provide excellent opportunities for technical, engineering, and professional design staff at all stages in their careers to be involved in some of the most exciting and challenging engineering projects.
In addition to these long-term contracts, we also have a diverse portfolio of major roads, bridges, transportation, and civil design projects with Transport Scotland, Local Authorities, and established Contractors across the country. These include the Perth Eco Innovation Park (Perth West) as well as active travel schemes throughout Scotland, the design of major road infrastructure schemes, including Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District Scotland and Clyde Waterfront & Renfrew Riverside, these schemes are developed to deliver growth. Improving safety on the trunk road network with the design and installation of Strategic Road Safety improvements whilst ensuring the UK’s Highways network continues to operate.
As a Graduate, you will work alongside the team to:
* Undertake any work of a technical nature that falls within ability and competence.
* Prepare design calculations, drawings, and documents.
* Carry out site visits, surveys, inspections, and supervise sub-contractors.
* Prepare feasibility studies, inspection, assessment, and technical reports ensuring compliance with Amey procedures.
* Keep up to date with industry best practice and apply this within a team environment.
The Graduate Programme
Our Graduate Programme is aligned with our Leadership Behavioural Framework, covering the five competencies identified by the business as core to cultivating a cohort of future-focused, high-performing consultants, engineers, and leaders. The role is on a rotational basis, meaning you'll cover a variety of areas depending on business needs and your interests. This could include working within structural projects, structure inspections, geotechnical, strategic road safety or transport project, giving you extensive exposure across the business.
Throughout the two-year programme, you will receive technical development relevant to your role, alongside personal development that supports you in acquiring essential consultancy skills for success. You’ll gain hands-on experience and collaborate with industry experts who value your unique perspectives. A 'buddy' and a mentor will be assigned to help you settle into your role and develop the necessary skills and knowledge.
