This is a great role opportunity responsible for preparation and conduct of proceedings in Courts and other tribunals, including insolvency proceedings, as well as giving advice on disputes/potential disputes, enforcement of rights and obligations and interpretation of legal documents and legislation. The postholder will:
1. Advise clients on litigation and insolvency
2. Take part in training
3. Represent in dealings with other law firms
4. Take instructions from other attorneys/clients including suggesting, recommending and drafting instruments
5. Be responsible for effective caseload management
6. Maintain up to date knowledge of local and international law as it may impact on Guernsey and their clients
7. Draft skeleton arguments and submissions
8. Assist in updating Knowledge Management data
9. Review and comment on documents prepared by other lawyers
10. Settle the terms of new engagements and exercise due diligence
11. Lead/assist in drafting precedent documentation
12. Act as mentor
13. Participate in marketing and training programmes
14. Manage client billing and outstanding debt
15. Manage business intelligence, including capturing contact details and business development
The successful candidate must have:
1. 5 - 10 years PQE and be a qualified lawyer with strong academic qualifications
2. Knowledge of litigation procedures and underlying substantive laws as well as legal areas having regard to area of specialisation and level of qualification
3. Experience of working on large commercial litigation and/or insolvency matters, with a leadership role on key aspects of large cases as well as experience of leading smaller cases with minimal supervision
4. Advocacy skills appropriate to level of qualification
5. Excellent interpersonal skills
6. Ability to work as a member of a team
7. Excellent communication skills
8. Proven record of productivity and ability to multi-task
9. Competent IT skills and familiarity with major office software
10. Awareness of discretion and confidentiality
