To develop a new role within our established paediatric psychology service as the embedded psychologist working on a busy general paediatric ward in central London. The postholder will offer direct intervention for babies, children, parents, and families during their inpatient stay and support the provision of psychologically informed care throughout the ward through collaborative working, staff consultation, and training.
We are looking for practitioners who can work confidently and adaptively in a demanding setting alongside multidisciplinary teams and are passionate about leading the development of psychological therapy pathways within this part of our service.
Main duties of the job
To develop the pathway together with the established ward MDT and psychology colleagues to provide holistic care including thinking about the psychological needs of the child and family in all aspects of their health journey. To engage and work collaboratively with children, their families, and professional networks to assess and offer individualised treatment of psychological needs related to their health condition and reason for admission to hospital. To liaise with community services where needed to meet needs beyond the remit of the service including the CNWL CAMHS crisis team for CYP admitted to the paediatric ward in relation to mental health needs.

TRAINING & QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
* Doctoral level training in clinical psychology, (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996 as accredited by the BPS), including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.
* Registration with the HCPC as a practitioner psychologist, domain of clinical psychology.
Desirable
* Pre or post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice.
* Attendance at a supervisor's training event.
Experience
Essential
* Significant experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist with significant experience of working within a paediatric psychology service or Perinatal Mental Health service, delivering both inpatient & outpatient assessment & intervention.
* Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse, and the threat of physical abuse.
* Experience in the use of a range of neuropsychology assessments with children & young people.
* Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment, both as a professionally qualified care coordinator and also within the context of a MDT care plan.
* Experience of delivering teaching and training to professional groups.
Desirable
* Experience of working within a Neonatal Unit.
* Experience of representing psychology within the context of multi-disciplinary care.
* Experience of the application of clinical psychology in different cultural contexts and of conducting sessions together with interpreters.
* Experience of clinical supervision of trainee and/or assistant psychologists.
