Job overview
We are looking for a highly motivated individual who wants to progress and take a step into a new challenge as part of a well-established team at the forefront of advanced practice. A person with advanced interpersonal and leadership skills, the ability to work with a diverse range of professional groups and a high degree of professional autonomy (once trained). The team works closely within the thoracic surgical team, aiming to support the consultant body and the wider MDT to ultimately improve patient care within the Thoracic surgical specialty.
The successful individual must already be employed as a Urology Surgical Nurse Practitioner and be willing to undertake their Advanced Clinical Practice MSc on the next available course.
Please note, if you do not meet the essential requirements for a Band 8, you will be appointed at a Band 7 and will be appointed as a Band 8 upon completion of competencies.
Successful candidates must have access to a vehicle for work purposes to meet the requirements of the role.
Main duties of the job
The thoracic advanced nurse practitioner will work within the four pillars of advanced practice. We aim to deliver a higher level of clinical expertise within the centre and tertiary services outpatient setting, cardiothoracic ward, cardiothoracic high dependency unit, and in the community. We aim to provide initial assessment, make differential diagnoses, and ensure appropriate investigations, interventions, and treatments are initiated to minimize delay, reduce cancer waiting times, and continuously improve the service.

Experience
* Relevant post qualification experience and experience of working in a relevant specialist area
* Current teaching and presentation experience
* Experience in providing counselling to patients and supporting staff
Knowledge & Skills
* Evidence of multi-agency and multi-professional working
* Extended scope of practice including non-medical prescribing
* Excellent understanding of advanced practice
* Knowledge of audit/research and evidence of application
* Clinical history taking skills (or working towards)
* Complex wound management
Qualifications & Training
* Specialist qualification relevant to area of practice
