Job overview
At UHNM, the Sustainability service is regarded as a national leader, performing both efficiently and with innovation as standard practice. As the UHNM Sustainability Manager, the post holder will be responsible for the management of the day-to-day operation of Sustainability. As such, the role will consist of a combination of managerial, advisory, training and hands-on duties essential to the development, implementation and maintenance of a compliant, efficient, sustainable and forward-thinking sustainability service in a large and complex healthcare organisation.
Focus will be on:
* Administer, prepare and present reports to Trust internal groups
* Preparation of Business Cases where necessary
* Coordinate and act as the Trust interface in progressing NHS England and Greener NHS direct interventions to achieve the reduction in carbon emissions
* Support the formulation of long-term, strategic plans
* Lead on informing the agenda and strategic content of the Sustainable Development Steering Group
* Ensure sufficient uptake of the Net Zero Carbon training or e-learning courses for UHNM Staff
* Ensure the Trust and service providers align to the UHNM Green Plan and sustainability ethos
* Identify and report any apparent health and safety risks presented by the sustainability management service
* Lead on initiating and implementing sustainability initiatives/projects across EFP and Trust-wide
* Mobilise and engage the ‘Champions’ in order to facilitate ownership, ‘bottom up’ implementation of sustainability initiatives and reporting of opportunities across all areas of the Trust estate

Essential criteria
* Expert knowledge in healthcare sustainability management principles, procedures, processes and legislation.
* Relevant sustainability/environmental/ engineering degree or qualification and considerable experience working in a sustainability role within a large acute hospital.
* Experience of interpreting strategic information and managing the sustainability agenda to the relevant healthcare legislation.
* Evidence of working with multi-disciplinary teams.
* Experience in delivering a sustainability awareness campaign.
* Expert knowledge and skills on sustainability in a large acute Trust.
* Ability to lead on and carry out both quantitative and qualitative surveys, presenting findings in a concise and cogent manner.
* Ability to work across directorates, develop alliances and obtain ownership and commitment from stakeholders.
* Positive mindset in respect of supporting organisational change; learning, and continuous improvement.
* Experience in the generation and analysis of sustainability data and utilise this to influence and persuade.
Desirable criteria
* Membership of The Institution of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA).
