We are looking for a self-driven individual working in an advanced clinical role, leading and developing nursing practice within the specialty. The post holder must demonstrate a sound knowledge and experience in the specialist area of breast disease and fulfil the 4 pillars of an advanced practice role. The postholder will lead and manage a small team of specialist breast care nurses at Chase Farm Hospital.
Main duties of the job
He or she will co-ordinate clinical services and ensure continued development of nurse-led services. The post-holder will oversee the clinical practice of breast nurses within the unit and support the development and training of nurses on the wards and in outpatients. In order to develop and deliver specialist advice and support patients suffering from breast disease, this post will maintain a strong clinical component. The post holder will be a member of the relevant service groups and represent nursing issues Trust wide and at Network level and effectively communicate with these services. He or she must demonstrate a sound knowledge of relevant health service policy. The post holder will be expected to liaise with colleagues external to the Trust, London Cancer and supra-regional cancer networks.
Job responsibilities
1. In conjunction with Lead Clinicians facilitate the pathway of care which includes relevant professionals within the Trust for the management of patients requiring treatment for Breast cancer both surgery and oncological.
2. To lead, develop and provide an autonomous nursing service using advanced clinical judgement and knowledge for patients from referral decision to treat, treatment options, surveillance, follow up to discharge.
3. To establish and develop one-stop clinics and nurse-led clinics to enhance the patient journey.
4. To contribute to London Cancer Breast Specialist nurse group.
5. To contribute and lead nursing for the London Cancer Breast Cancer pathway.
6. To deliver compliance with patient experience and nursing measures in the Cancer Peer Review process at Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust.
7. To lead in developing strong communication/educational links to staff in all clinical areas caring for patients having breast cancer surgery.
8. To lead and innovate the specialist nurse component to the ongoing pathway redesign project.
9. To take responsibility for own evidence-based practice and implement and add to the body of knowledge that supports nursing practice within renal nursing on a national level.
10. To lead and participate in Specialist/Advanced nursing practices for the Directorate.
11. To line manage Clinical Nurse Specialists within the breast cancer service.
12. To lead and establish regional MDT links for breast cancer surgical patients.

* Registered Nurse
* Degree in relevant specialty
* Masters or working towards
* Advanced Assessment Qualification
* Extensive teaching experience

* Non-medical prescribing qualification or willingness to undertake

* Substantial experience in a senior nurse operational role in an acute NHS setting
* Experience in setting up and running nurse-led clinics
* Proven ability to initiate audits/research & assess evidence
* Knowledge and experience of leading significant change, delivering tangible and sustained improvements
* Experience of developing business and workforce plans in line with future service requirements
* Extensive knowledge and experience of practice and policy across a broad range of responsibilities, e.g. financial systems & budgetary control, corporate and clinical governance, health & safety and human resources
* Experience of motivating staff and improving individuals and team performance
* Experience of managing employment relation issues
* Able to build rapport and credibility with senior clinical and managerial colleagues
