The project seeks to make a real change for children and young people with epilepsy across our ICS and we are looking for a Clinical Psychologist with a passion for driving change and innovation who can continue the valuable work that has been started on this project (newly qualified Psychologists with strong leadership skills would also be considered for this position).
You would be working within a team of experienced Clinical Psychologists based at York Hospital. Integral to the post is networking with CYP services across the ICS. The successful post holder will also hold a clinical caseload to support the wider remit of the paediatric psychology service.
The focus of the role is to continue embedding the screening and psychological interventions into routine practice and to support the evaluation of the project through data collection and reporting.
Main duties of the job
To provide a qualified Clinical Psychology Service to children and young people with Epilepsy and their families:
* Provide specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing to patients’ formulation, diagnosis, and treatment plans.
* Use research skills for audit, policy and service development, leading on research projects.
* Maintain up to date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies, and issues in relation to the specific patient group, mental health, clinical paediatric psychology, health psychology and neuropsychology in general.
* Maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping including electronic data entry, recording, report writing.
* Work within professional guidelines, overall frameworks and policies and procedures for Psychology in Child Health.
* Variable working conditions including in a patient’s own home, school and outpatient setting.
Person specification
Education
* Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology including models of child and adolescent psychology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies as accredited by the BPS and HCPC.
* Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology.
Experience
* Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of children, young people and families across various care settings.
* Experience of working with a wide variety of patient groups presenting problems across the full range of clinical severity.
* Experience of working with Clinical Health populations.
* Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision.
Skills
* Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management requiring sustained concentration.
* Well-developed skills in communicating complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information.
* Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
* Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex data analysis.
* Knowledge of legislation in relation to the patient groups.
Personal Qualities
* Ability to teach and train others using a variety of complex multi-media materials.
* Ability to work as a team member and show flexibility and adaptability.
