Are you looking to meet new people and make new friends? Want to help someone in your community?
1 hr / week Flexible
We are looking for big-hearted, open-minded people who have a little time to give to make a big difference.
We are currently recruiting Home Visit Befrienders across the Wakefield District.
Volunteer Befrienders are matched with an isolated, lonely older person living in their own home and are asked to visit once a week for around an hour to provide conversation, companionship, and friendship. During your visit, you might spend time talking and listening, looking at photographs, playing board games/card games, helping to read the mail to someone with a sight impairment, cooking a meal/baking together, or helping to build other social contacts in the community by researching local groups together.
There is a small element of paperwork involved in this role, as we ask you to complete a contact diary with details of your visits.
Home visit befrienders must be aged 18 or over. This role can be carried out any day of the week, mornings, afternoons, or evenings.
Volunteers will undertake an Induction Training session before being matched and placed in the role.
