Brief Description
The Distribution & Plant team for Scotland's Railway looks after equipment across some of the busiest parts of the network between Glasgow and Edinburgh, including the Banavie swing bridge in Fort William, West Highland line, and Highland Main line. This team keeps power flowing through the electrified line safely and efficiently. The team works on the electrification system to ensure that the railway has the power to run trains, signals, and stations, as well as maintaining fixed generators, UPS systems, and fixed pumps.
Please note this vacancy is a 6-month secondment/FTC opportunity.
About the role (External)
The successful candidate will support the management and direction of the Technical Support Team while providing support to the wider D&P team through engaging with our supply chain partners and project teams. This may include working nights and weekends as well as being on-call. The role is varied, managing compliance, safety, and performance of the teams and the asset itself across Scotland Route.
Here are some of the duties your role will include:
1. Manage and direct the Technical Support team to achieve business and functional objectives and meet key performance measures.
2. Manage development of individuals and the engagement of the team.
3. Manage the arrangements for staff safety and competence.
4. Monitor asset performance, reliability, productivity, and efficiency.
5. Provide technical guidance and support.
6. Undertake survey and design work.
7. Manage the assurance and non-compliance process within the delivery unit.
8. Undertake technical inspections and investigations.
9. Provide local requirements to arrange track monitoring trains and receive outputs.
10. Maintain the accuracy of systems, databases, and records.
11. Review and approve method statements and/or plans for design and/or work activities as required.
12. Undertake an agreed programme of staff surveillance, work quality, and asset condition checks.
What you will bring to the role:
We are interested to hear from candidates who have electrical experience as well as knowledge of High Voltage working arrangements alongside the below essential criteria:
1. Relevant technical competence
2. Knowledge of maintenance delivery processes and techniques
3. Knowledge of safety and compliance management processes
4. Knowledge of operational railway environment
5. Detailed knowledge of relevant standards and procedures
6. Design knowledge and experience
7. Failure/incident management and rectification techniques
8. Knowledge of other functional disciplines
9. Good interpersonal, influencing, communication, and organisation skills
10. HNC/HND or equivalent qualification
