Surveillance Coordinator and Data Analyst
The post holder will work within the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) team and will be responsible for the surveillance of healthcare associated infections (HCAIs) including surgical site infections (SSI) and providing high quality and accurate data to facilitate valuable analysis that meet the needs of the IPC service in Whittington Health. The post holder will play a key role in the reporting of relevant IPC statistics to both internal and external stakeholders of the Trust. The post holder will be responsible for the development and maintenance of IPC surveillance programmes and data systems across the Integrated Care Board (ICB) and support associated data analysis and reporting.
Main Duties of the Job
MAIN DUTIES
1. Support the national surveillance program of Surgical Site Infections (SSI) for the Trust, in line with UKHSA guidance.
2. Manage complex IPC data which can be locally held or on national platforms. Attention to detail is paramount.
3. Establish, maintain and monitor databases and systems relating to infection prevention and control data.
4. Provide specialist administrative and technical support for a range of infection prevention and control data systems, surveillance programmes and outbreak investigations.
5. Commit to personal development to develop a wide range of relevant information skills and identify and use new technologies.
6. Analyse and report surveillance data collected for the Surgical Site Infection Surveillance Service (SSISS).
7. Ensure accuracy of surveillance data, correcting errors and missing data and checking infection records.
8. Consult with the IPC team on reporting all deep and organ space wounds within the Trust's Datix reporting system in line with the Trust's framework for Clinical Governance.
9. Provide analysis and feedback of results to clinicians and other staff, escalating appropriately outcome of concerns from patients or any increase in infection with support of the IPC team.
10. Upload the information obtained for the SSISS to the UKHSA website accurately, submitting data in line with deadlines.
11. Undertake a training session from UKHSA regarding SSISS.
12. Contribute to setting Trust development of targets and benchmarking standards of care when required, to improve the quality of the patient care in the care of post-operative wounds.
13. Assist with the production of graphs and charts towards the preparation and provision of quarterly reporting to commissioners, the Health Protection Teams, North Central London (NCL) ICB, and internal reporting e.g. to Infection Prevention and Control Committee, Quality and Clinical Governance committees, etc.
14. Produce and maintain reports on new MRSA, MSSA, RGNBs, CPE and C. difficile isolates ensuring reporting is prompt and within agreed time deadlines i.e. monthly, quarterly, annually.
15. Analyse and report other infection prevention and control or surveillance data as by the DIPC or deputy.
16. Support the analysis and reporting of data for relevant internal and external clinical audit projects in collaboration with wards, clinics and health centres within the integrated care organisation (ICO), alongside the IPC team.
17. Take responsibility for coordinating the ICO's audit platform which provides real time information to improve and optimise effectiveness.
18. Ensure accurate and timely data entry is achieved to support data analysis, validation and submission of data to the ICO's quality indicators.
19. Train as required on data entry to clinical and non-clinical staff on the databases and in the use of relevant software.
20. Contribute ideas/strategies in care to reduce HCAI incidence. This may include creating audit tools, following up on action plans and updating project databases.
21. Manage any technical issues affecting audit and surveillance systems, liaising with systems support staff to resolve problems.
22. Use data effectively and reduce duplication in data processes.
23. Prepare and co-ordinate reports, documents and presentations using an advanced level of IT skill, using Microsoft packages including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and other databases as relevant to the IPC Team.
24. Attend and participate in team meetings and contribute ideas for the improvement of departmental systems.
25. Be accountable for organising and prioritising own workload to ensure deadlines or commitments are achieved.
26. Be responsible for the equipment and resources used in the course of work.
27. Line management of IPC Administrator including the allocation of work; monitoring quality of work completed; providing appropriate training, guidance and support; and undertaking regular employee reviews and annual appraisals.
28. Support the rest of the IPC non-clinical support team and undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade as requested.
