As Engineering Operations Manager, you will oversee and streamline the day-to-day operations of the in-house engineering teams, ensuring efficient processes, high-quality project execution, and alignment with organisational goals. This role requires strong leadership, technical acumen, and strategic planning to optimise resource allocation and drive continuous improvement across engineering operations. Essential: Proven experience (5 years) in operations management within an engineering environment. Strong understanding of engineering principles, compliance, processes, and project management methodologies. Demonstrated leadership and team-building abilities. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and organisational skills. Proficiency in project management software and tools. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. Lean, Six Sigma, or other process improvement certifications. Experience with budgeting and financial management. Ability to communicate fluidly and confidently with customers by phone, email and in person. Ability to collate complex statistical information and present to senior management in a professional manner. Desirable: Degree in Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field Operational Leadership: Develop, implement, and maintain operational systems and processes to support engineering projects. Manage Design Change Notices (DCNs) and Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) proficiently, including active creation, review, implementation, or rejection. Ensuring timely and proficient completion of all ECNs. Monitor and evaluate department performance metrics to ensure efficiency and effectiveness. Collaborate with leadership to align engineering operations with company objectives. Team Management: Distribution and prioritisation of repair tasks for service engineers, ensuring efficiency and consideration of workload and deadlines. Lead and manage the in-house engineering operations team, providing guidance and mentorship, including setting KPIs and conducting development & appraisal reviews. Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement. Ensure adequate training and development opportunities for staff. Project Oversight: Building and managing production schedules while overseeing the procurement of necessary inventory to maintain smooth operations. Coordinate project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation. Ensure projects are completed on time, within scope, and meet quality standards. Identify and mitigate risks affecting project delivery. Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance workflows and implement best practices. Leverage data and analytics to drive decision-making and operational improvements. Standardise procedures to ensure consistency and scalability. Resource Management: Manage departmental budgets and ensure cost-effectiveness. Oversee procurement and maintenance of engineering tools, equipment, and software. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimise resource allocation and acquire new talent in line with organisational goals. Compliance and Safety: Ensure compliance with the service and manufacturing operations are run profitably and safely with all applicable regulations, standards, and organisational policies. Ensuring service equipment, tooling & PPE is registered, calibrated (where appropriate), PAT tested and kept in good order. Ensuring service area is kept clean and clutter free to improve quality and minimise working hazards. Promote and enforce a culture of safety within the engineering operations. Communication and Reporting: Serve as the primary liaison between the engineering department and other organisational units. Skilled in drafting and editing various technical documents, including quotes, reports, and method statements, ensuring clarity and precision. Prepare and deliver regular reports on operational performance to senior leadership. Communicate project updates, challenges, and achievements effectively to stakeholders.
