Are you ready to pave the way for a rewarding future? Cheshire East Highways is seeking a dedicated Apprentice Highways Operative to join our dynamic maintenance team at the Wardle depot in Nantwich. This exciting opportunity allows you to gain hands-on experience, learn invaluable skills, and make a real impact by helping to keep our roads safe and operational.
Over the course of this 2-year apprenticeship, you’ll work alongside seasoned professionals, gaining practical expertise and industry insights that will set you up for long-term success in the highways industry.
Upon completing the program, you’ll qualify as a Highways Maintenance Operative, opening doors to further career growth within Ringway Jacobs and beyond.
The Role
1. Assist in the repair and maintenance of carriageways and footways, ensuring all work is accurately recorded using hand-held devices.
2. Understand and follow health and safety procedures to ensure your own safety and the safety of others.
3. Learn how to operate equipment and tools safely.
4. Collaborate with colleagues to ensure works are completed on time and to standard.
5. Undertake highways specific training courses as appropriate to ensure understanding and compliance.
Minimum Requirements
1. Formal qualifications are not required to be enrolled onto the apprenticeship, however you must achieve level 1 in Maths and English before the end point assessment and take the test for level 2, or provide a certificate of equivalent prior achievement such as GCSEs.
2. Basic understanding of health and safety requirements.
3. Regular travel to college.
4. Understand and demonstrate safe working practices and encourage others to do the same.
5. Willingness to learn and seek opportunities to develop skills.
Candidates who haven’t received their final results by the date of the assessment centre are still encouraged to apply as this can be discussed with hiring managers.
