Maintenance Technician x 2
Permanent Contract
Full Time - 37.5 hours per week
We currently have two vacancies within the Department of Facilities Management: 1 x Mechanically biased Maintenance Technician and 1 x Electrically biased Maintenance Technician.
To provide technical support services for the reactive/planned specialist maintenance work on a variety of hospital plant and equipment to ensure compliance with all statutory requirements.

Applicants should have served a recognized and registered craft apprenticeship and will have gained or working towards a NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or Mechanical Engineering and possess equivalent previous hospital maintenance experience.
The post holder would be expected to carry out maintenance duties in an efficient and effective manner to support the successful delivery of a customer focused estate maintenance service for the Trust.
Perform routine duties which may be delegated by the maintenance team leader with the minimum of supervision and have a flexible and positive approach to change.
The applicants must understand and competently work on a wide range of Building Services systems with the ability to service, test, diagnose, and repair mechanical / electrical, plant and equipment.
Applicants must have the ability to deal with new situations as they arise and pass on relevant.

Acute Care
Providing emergency and maternity services at Whiston, Southport and Ormskirk hospitals, and medical and surgical specialties across all our sites.

Providing primary care services at Marshalls Cross Medical Centre situated in St Helens Hospital.
Community Services
Providing adult community services for St Helens and a wheelchair service in Chorley, South Ribble, and West Lancashire. Our inpatient unit at Newton Community Hospital is where patients needing acute hospital beds can continue rehabilitation, freeing up space for more unwell patients. We also provide urgent care at our Urgent Treatment Centre located in St Helens town centre.
Specialist Regional Services
We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

KEY DUTIES
· Carry out installation, repair, service, and calibration work on a wide range of complex, mechanical, electrical and electronic equipment, building services and plant in accordance with relevant Health Technical Memoranda, water bylaws, British standards, codes of practice, and legislation.
· Actively participate in the management, and operation of planned preventative maintenance schemes.
· Undertake the full range of technician’s duties, using hand and power tools and test equipment.
· Carry out test and fault diagnostic procedures using electronic instruments both on site and in workshop.
· Carry out manual handling of heavy objects (20kg) as required (after suitable training) to keep plant and equipment running as required.
· Carry out cleaning, decontamination, specialist fault diagnosis and repairs of patient related and specialised equipment.
· The technician will be based at either Ormskirk or Southport but will be expected to work from any base to match the demands of the service.
CLINICAL & PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
· Liaise with Trust management, Nursing personnel, Support personnel, Statutory bodies and specialist contractors to advise on the best course of action to be taken in situations as they arise and carry out recommendations where this is within their capabilities.
· Follow and ensure compliance with all Trust Procedures and policies including Health and Safety and Risk management.
· Carry out risk assessments for work carried out by self.
· Lead and communicate relevant specialist knowledge to other estates staff as and when necessary.
· Carry out priority assessment of workload and carry out tasks according to priority.
ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
· The post holder shall liaise with patients, nursing staff, management, contractors and other support staff to ascertain the extent of problems, and priority.
· The post holder shall produce a record of the results of equipment testing in an appropriate form and give the results to the site management.
· The post holder will be required to carry a mobile phone (provided by the Trust) to undertake duties via the Dept CAFM system and for general contact whilst on duty.
TEACHING & TRAINING RESPONSIBILITIES
· The post holder will undertake specialist mandatory equipment training to enable the Trust to meet its obligations under its policies and legislation.
· The post holder will update knowledge of new techniques / equipment as necessary.
· The post holder will also cascade training to other estates personal as and when necessary.
· The post holder must have served a recognised Mechanical / Electrical apprenticeship and have relevant experience.
· The post holder should be physically fit, able to move 20kg items and climb vertical ladders. Appropriate training will be given as necessary.
LINE MANAGEMENT/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
· The post holder will be required to participate in the Technicians On-Call system and be the first point of contact for out of hours emergencies. Manage in an effective manner the emergency call by taking appropriate action. Escalate any situations to more senior managers as necessary. On Call duty will cover all properties maintained by the Trust, driving to the required sites as necessary.
