At Protocol Education, we specialize in placing skilled professionals into SEND schools. We are currently recruiting Autism Support Assistants to work with children and young people with autism in a range of SEND school settings. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable experience while making a real difference in the lives of students with autism.
The Role
As an Autism Support Assistant, you will provide essential support to students with autism, helping them engage with the curriculum, manage their behaviour, and build social and emotional skills. Working alongside teachers and other staff, you will ensure an inclusive, supportive environment, using autism-specific strategies to enhance the learning and well-being of students.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with autism.
* Assist with the implementation of individualized learning plans to meet students' educational, emotional, and social needs.
* Support students in developing communication, social, and life skills.
* Use autism-specific techniques for behaviour management, encouraging positive behaviour.
* Promote a positive, safe, and engaging learning environment.
* Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and other professionals to deliver tailored support strategies.
* Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
* Participate in training and professional development to enhance your expertise in autism support.
Key Requirements
* Experience working with students with autism or in SEND settings is beneficial but not required.
* Passion for supporting children with autism and special educational needs.
* Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
* Patience, empathy, and proactive problem-solving skills.
* Ability to adapt to different school environments and work flexibly.
* A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
* Relevant qualifications such as Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant, Autism Awareness training, or similar are desirable.
