Key Information
Reporting to: Director of Finance and Resources
Hours: 0.6-0.8 FTE (22.5-30 hours per week)
Salary: £39,000 - £44,750 (pro-rata £31,200 - £35,800, study support negotiable)
Location: London (minimum one day per week in the Islington office and two days at month-end required)

Role Overview
Reporting to the Director of Finance and Resources, you will oversee the charity's financial operations and governance framework, working closely with the Finance and Resources team, Senior Management Team (SMT), and trustees. You will also manage and mentor the Finance and Governance Administrator, supporting their development and ensuring the smooth running of the finance function.
This is a newly created role to strengthen our financial and governance capabilities as we scale. This is an opportunity to make a significant impact by leading financial management and ensuring strong governance within the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management:
1. Prepare accurate and timely monthly management accounts, including variance analysis.
2. Oversee balance sheet management and ensure integrity in financial reporting.
3. Manage cash flow forecasting and provide regular updates to leadership.
4. Handle credit control processes, ensuring prompt payments from funders and other stakeholders.
5. Manage gift aid claims and ensure compliance with HMRC guidelines.
6. Address bank queries, oversee payment runs, and manage day-to-day financial operations.
7. Support the annual budgeting process, working closely with department leads.
8. Assist with year-end processes and liaise with external auditors.
9. Ensure suppliers offer value for money through regular review.
Governance and Compliance:
1. Continuously review and update financial policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with legal and sector standards.
2. Ensure governance documents, including trustee communications, conflict-of-interest forms, and meeting minutes, are accurate and up to date.
3. Attend and contribute to quarterly board committee meetings, providing governance and finance insights.
4. Support the SMT on finance and compliance matters, including budget management.
Team Leadership:
1. Mentor and manage the Finance and Governance Administrator, supporting their professional growth.
2. Educate and train the SMT on financial policies and procedures to enhance organisational understanding.
3. Foster collaboration within the Finance and Resources team, ensuring cohesive support across the organisation.
Other Responsibilities:
1. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in financial and governance processes.
2. Ensure financial systems (e.g., Xero and ApprovalMax) are optimised and well-maintained.
3. Maintain confidentiality over sensitive data including salaries and board discussions.
4. Undertake any additional tasks as required to support the charity's operations.
