TEACHING ASSISTANT / LEAD FIRST AID Actual Salary £19,537 - £19,847 per annum (Grade 5, SCP 5-6) This is an exciting new opportunity to join us helping support our students’ welfare across the year groups. These details should be read in conjunction with the XS10.4 Teaching Assistant Job Description. The successful applicant will have high expectations, a commitment to excellence and be passionate about meeting the needs of every child. They will be able to offer students appropriate support and demonstrate that they can engage well and build positive relationships with young people. Essential qualities include discretion, empathy, good personal organisation and time-keeping, excellent communication skills and a desire to see young people achieve their potential. Previous experience of working with young people, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, would be an advantage. This is a new role for the school and we are looking for someone who is versatile, well-organised and has a “can do” attitude to be the first point of contact for those requiring First Aid. The postholder will be required to take charge of the First Aid area and will often work without direct supervision, but this will be present where necessary. Centrally based and working closely with Wellbeing staff and the Wellbeing area, the postholder will support students, staff and visitors who may fall ill or suffer a minor injury while in school. Duties will include: delivering First Aid care (including administering medication) to students, staff or visitors as required maintaining accurate records and details of medication reporting to parents as required (either by phone or via ClassCharts) monitoring unwell students who are unfit for lessons until they are able to go home keeping accurate and up to date student medical information and records liaising with parents and sharing relevant student medical information with staff as appropriate preparing First Aid packs for trips and visits ensuring student medication kept in school (e.g. epipens) is in date and available maintaining records of students accessing First Aid and providing reports on this as required liaising with and supporting outside agencies (e.g. immunisation teams) as required delivering health advice and guidance information to students as required holding up to date First Aid qualification(s) and training (e.g. epipen autoinjector use and diabetes) keeping the medical room tidy and organised and all paperwork safely and securely stored. The ideal postholder will: Have relevant First Aid experience and an appropriate First Aid or nursing qualification Be confident and enthusiastic about working with pupils of all ages Show initiative and a keenness to be involved in all aspects of school life Take a flexible and pro-active approach to working Have a proven track record of good working relationships and professionalism Understand the sensitivities involved and the need for discretion and confidentiality Show compassion and understanding whilst minimising student time out of the classroom. Working hours are 8.30am-3.45pm Monday to Friday term time only for 33.75 hours per week and 39 weeks per year. A ll leave must be taken during the school holidays. (Job share may be possible). Whilst First Aid will be a primary focus, there is also a requirement to undertake any other tasks as appropriate to ensure the smooth running of the school as required, particularly working with and supporting the natural links with the Wellbeing area. Keeping Children Safe in Education Beaminster School will conduct online searches of shortlisted candidates.
