Job Role: Cook Location: Stranmillis, Belfast Pay rate: £12.93 per hour Duration: Ongoing Hours: Monday to Friday rota, over 3 weeks: Week1 6.30am-2.30pm, 6.30am-2.30pm, 11.00am-7.00pm, 6.30am-2.30pm, 6.30am-1.30pm Week2 9.00am-6.30pm, 10.30am-6.30pm, 10.30am-6.30pm, 10.30am-6.30pm, 8.00am-1.30pm Week3 10.00am-7.00pm, 11.00am-7.00pm, 6.30am-2.30pm, 11.00am-7pm, 9.00am-3.00pm Please note a Basic Access NI check required before commencing role. Your role: To assist and support the food preparation and operation of the hospitality service to enable a high-quality food and beverage service to be provided to a range of customers including staff, students and visitors. Your responsibilities: 1 To be responsible for the preparation, cooking, and serving of all meals, snacks, and beverages in all associated areas to the agreed menus and standards. 2 To cater for various dietary requirements where appropriate. 3 To ensure that all food is properly cooked and to ensure all food is stored appropriately in accordance with current good practice and environmental health guidance and procedures. 4 To ensure the correct cleaning of equipment, work surfaces and other associated utensils in the kitchen area. 5 To place orders for stock and check food supplies in accordance with quantity and quality control procedures. To assist with stock control and stock rotation to utilise stock and reduce wastage. 6 To maintain appropriate records in accordance with regulations e.g., hot, and cold food storage temperatures, cooking times, labelling and stock used etc. 7 To contribute ideas to the catering services provided e.g., Menu changes or improvements and efficiencies in the service. 8 To work as part of a highly functioning team ensuring the efficient use of staff and resources. 9 To regularly inspect all equipment and log and report any defects. 10 To comply with hygiene, health and safety regulations and procedures. 11 To keep up to date with current good practice and attend training courses as may be deemed appropriate and relevant. 12 To assist the senior catering staff with staff training as appropriate. You will have: 1. City & Guilds 706/1&2 or equivalent NVQ plus 1 years' experience in large scale / industrial catering. 2. Food Hygiene Certificate. 3. Good oral communication skills, written and oral. 4. Evidence of the ability to work as part of a team. 5. Previous experience of working as part of a team in a hospitality environment. 6. Experience of working as part of a team of cooks and of working in a baking environment is advantageous.
