The Opportunity:
Avantor is looking for a self-motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician (Functional Genomics) to join our team based in Cambridge, UK. In this role, you'll support the Functional Genomics Group in a variety of laboratory tasks, including mammalian cell culturing, managing liquid-handling automation, and assisting with troubleshooting and improving equipment performance. You'll become the superuser for laboratory machines, working to ensure smooth operations, learning to create computer-based scripts for the automation systems, and preventing recurring issues.
This is a full-time, temporary (12-month) position based at The Discovery Centre, a state-of-the-art facility. In addition to an attractive salary, we offer multiple benefits, including a pension scheme, private medical and dental care, and an extra day off for your birthday.
Working hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 - 17:00
The Team
You will be part of a collaborative team of 10-15 associates, working on well-defined projects and supporting the day-to-day operations of our laboratory. You will belong to our Lab and Production Services department, which supports leading pharmaceutical companies and laboratories worldwide, contributing to Research and Development in the Life Sciences industry.
What we're looking for
* Education: A Bachelor's degree in a science-related discipline or laboratory experience with hands-on experience in laboratory techniques and mammalian cell culture.
* Experience:
o Experience or theoretical knowledge of mammalian cell culture techniques and cell biology
o Familiarity with liquid-handling automation systems, such as Hamilton, and their application in laboratory workflows
o Experience with or a willingness to learn how to create computer-based scripts for laboratory machines and automation systems
o Strong organizational and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to maintain equipment to prevent recurring issues
o Proficiency in basic computer software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and any data analysis tools or laboratory management systems

* Prepare and aliquot reagents for experiments, ensuring accuracy in measurements and providing timely support for ongoing research

* Troubleshoot and resolve issues with laboratory equipment and automation systems, ensuring seamless lab operations and preventing repeated problems
