This is one of the most significant contract awards in the company’s history and represents a major win in the face of stiff competition from other major national suppliers.
OSA is an updated version on Openreach’s former ONSA contract and includes full regional ownership of most network upgrade programmes, network maintenance and repair activities on behalf of Openreach.
We are seeking a number of highly skilled and experienced Civils Operatives to working in gangs of two, across specific geographical regions.
Job Purpose / Primary Objective
As a Civils Operative, you will be required to perform excavations, repairs, and reinstatements, installation of ducting, frame and covers, chambers and street cabinets within the public highway and customers' premises.
This must be done using up-to-date client standard operating procedures and in full compliance with current legislation, health and safety requirements, and company policies.
Key responsibilities
As a Civils Operative, your core responsibilities will include:
* Providing new installation and repair of network duct for associated customer connections.
* Clearing blockages in the highway and reinstating to industry standards, ensuring all information and photos are captured on company-supplied assets (e.g., phone or tablet).
* Being competent in the use of Stihl Saws, Wacker plates, 360 excavator and trench compactors.
* Installing new draw rope and drop cable to the customer's connection point following installation/repair of duct works.
* Completing appropriate digital forms for your daily works, risk assessments, plant sheets, and/or van sheets.
* Demonstrating experience in risk assessment and hazard identification with a strong focus on health and safety requirements and responsibilities.

To be effective in this role, the Civils Operative will need to:
* Maintain and build good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including colleagues, customers, suppliers, and senior management teams.
* Work efficiently and effectively as part of a team.
* Communicate effectively with all other departments.
Person Specification
To be successful in this role, the Civils Operative will:
* Hold the following civils accreditations that can be evidenced: NRSWA LA 1-9, SA06, K8, Q20 (DB1), Q13 (BB1M), Q21 (DL1), Q19 (CD1), Q28 (ME1), Q25 (FCFW1).
* Hold a 360-excavator operative’s licence
* Have experience in a similar operational or engineering environment within the telecommunications industry.
* Have a legal right to work in the UK.
* Hold a full UK driver’s license.
* Have strong planning, organization, and monitoring abilities.
* Enjoy a challenge, have excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate at all levels.
* Have a high standard of literacy and numeracy.
* Be computer literate.
* Have strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Have a strong orientation towards quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
* Be able to prioritize work, work well under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage business expectations.
* Be adaptable and flexible in your approach to work.
