Applications are invited for a full-time post of Research Fellow in Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) Surgery (50% clinical, 50% research). The post is based at the Lister Hospital, Stevenage and is designed to provide a platform for a registrar level surgeon to advance their clinical as well as their research skills by registering for a higher degree through existing links with the University of Hertfordshire.
Clinically, this is an excellent opportunity within the ENT unit at the Trust for the appointee to further their interest and surgical knowledge. The ENT department performs regularly advanced ear operations (including bone conduction and middle ear implant work), advanced rhinology procedures, transoral robotic surgery, trans-nasal oesophagoscopy, and has the largest cohort of thyroid/parathyroid patients in Hertfordshire/ Bedfordshire. There are subspecialty clinics taking place daily (e.g hearing and balance, smell, thyroid/parathyroid, head and neck, paediatric) and different MDTs that the fellow will be expected to attend.
The successful applicant will be engaged in ENT research, working towards a higher degree in ENT (MD or PhD). Our ENT department is research active and is currently recruiting patients in Otology, Rhinology and Head and Neck Surgery research studies. The main area of research will depend on the department’s research priorities and the successful applicant’s subspecialty of interest. There will also be a requirement to help support the research team of nurses to recruit patients into commercial clinical trials and registries that are ongoing.

We have ambitious plans to become an outstanding, patient-led Trust where dedicated staff provide high-quality, compassionate care to our patients. We continue to undergo significant transformation and our staff and patients are at the heart of delivering this ambitious agenda.
We are committed to a positive work life balance for our employees.
