About the role
We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Project Manager to join our UKCS Construction teams, working on various high profile infrastructure projects in Scotland.
In this role successful candidates will get the opportunity to play a key role in the planning and construction of the A9 Tomatin to Moy dual carriageway development framework, including associated earthworks, drainage, access tracks, structures and utilities.
As Project Manager you will have overall accountability for successful project delivery including; initiation, planning, design, delivery, monitoring, commissioning and handover/close out. D etermining the most appropriate means of satisfying customer/project requirements, objectives and constraints; time, cost, quality, scope, risk and benefits.
What you'll be doing
Governance
* Hold periodic project reviews (PRM) and update the Digital Briefcase in accordance with GBL
* Ensure the team maintain accurate project records (progress, daily diaries etc.)
* Prepare both internal/external reports and liaise with stakeholders
Analytical Thinking & Decision Making
* Initiates good scope/information/configuration management principles
* Ensure reports provide relevant information which enable decisions to be made which are informed, cost effective and in line with overall strategy
* Ensure scope and package assignment supports the team in coordinated working
Health Safety & Environmental
* Ensure a relentless focus on Zero Harm & keep up to date with changes in legislation
* Responsible for the safety and welfare of the general public, employees and supply chain
* Carry out periodic Safety & Environmental Tours/promote observation and safety initiatives
* Support Accident/Incident Investigations
* Monitor effectiveness of the H&S Management System and implement improvement solutions
Resources & Development
* Develop, implement and update resource allocations plans (OBS) and raise appropriate requests
Leadership/Line Management
* Produce plans for the team to achieve goals/aspirations
* Develop high performing teams, promote a pipeline of talent and assist with internal training through supporting, guiding, motivating and empowering the team. Using the resources available through training, mentoring and performance management.
Risk, Issue & Opportunity
* Lead risk/opportunity reviews, present the Risk Register and recommend/implement changes
* Log and escalate any issues that cannot be resolved at delegated level of authority
Procurement & Supply Chain
* Manage subcontractors, including monitoring of contractor attendance and progress, providing direct instruction and support as necessary, such that contractual arrangements are achieved
* Ensure procurement plans are available in line with the overall project plans, such that material/resources/supply chain can be delivered to meet scheduled deadlines
Quality
* Ensure all work is undertaken with a view towards handover and certification
* Accountable for KPI's in line with project objectives and monitor performance
* Ensure assurance activities (audits) are undertaken and take appropriate action on findings
* Lead working groups and work with OLT on focused improvement areas
Schedule
* Develop, implement, review and periodically update resource loaded schedules
* Ensure team adopt productivity and project controls techniques
* Monitor progress and implement Short Interval Control processes/hold weekly meeting
* Ensure production of operational milestones reflect master schedule and customer expectations
* Establish robust change control process
Commercial & Contract
* Ensure that expenditure is in line with the budget and that resources are utilised efficiently to ensure cost control
* Able to identify elements for cost recovery from others
* Incorporate and balance both operational and commercial constraints into decision making
Lead effective reporting routines including escalation as required
Who we're looking for
The following qualities/experience are essential:
* Able to demonstrate a track record of project delivery
* Good understanding of the standard forms of contracts
* Proficient in commercial/project management communications
* Experience in implementing safe systems of work
* Able to communicate effectively both verbal and written with all levels of the organisation
* Effective team management skills which empower, influence & inspire others to build effective teams. Providing mentoring and support to members of the team where required
* Commercially astute
* Able to undertake work in high pressure situations
* Good knowledge of performance evaluation techniques and key metrics
* Record of a solution-based approach to problem solving
* Ability to see the business vision and inspire this shared vision amongst the team
The following qualities/experience are desirable:
* Experience of working on a variety of project types
* Member of a professional management body i.e. APM
* Proficient on O365
* Holds a current driving licence
The role holder is likely to have one or more of the following:
* Formal qualification (BSc/MSc) in management/construction or experience equivalent
* APM PFQ/PMQ/PPQ
CSCS and SMSTS or Equivalent
