Main duties of the job
You will need to be a motivated team-oriented professional with a passion for delivering high standards of nursing care in an ever-changing environment. It is essential you communicate effectively within this environment and act in line with the Endoscopy Unit's philosophy. The successful candidate will have previous experience in a Senior Staff Nurse post or previous deputy ward manager experience. You will be required to manage the Unit in the absence of the Ward Manager and be able to communicate effectively to all levels. Key elements include strong professional leadership qualities, which are critical to delivering the high standard of care our trust requires, a passion to motivate and increase staff morale, and the ability to manage and encourage a learning environment. You will deal with day-to-day issues that may arise such as staff sickness, roster management, complaints, incidents, and audits. You will also be expected to support the ward manager with governance issues, training, and incident management.

Job responsibilities
For full details of this interesting role please see attached job description, but some of your responsibilities will be to:
1. Deputise for the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse in his/her absence and support the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse in managing resources effectively.
2. Support the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse in managing staff contracted hours, sickness, absence and training through the e-Roster system.
3. Support the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse in the assessment of all ward staff's performance objectively through Knowledge Skills Framework, competency and personal development planning.
4. Provide clear feedback to team members in a way that is conducive to maintaining and improving performance. Where performance is poor, inform the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse and, when directed, take necessary steps to effectively manage the individual with support from the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.
5. In liaison with relevant managers/Heads of Departments, monitor and quickly remedy any deficiencies in services, such as ward cleaning, catering, laundry, portering and administrative support.
6. Demonstrate appropriate assertiveness and ability to challenge others when the rights of patients and others may be infringed.
7. Promote interdisciplinary working, with outcomes aimed at the best interests of patients and cohesive service delivery.
8. Actively promote diversity and equality. Generate and sustain relationships that promote dignity, rights and responsibilities.
9. Be accountable for own practice and for the delegation of care given to more junior colleagues, support workers and students.
