Role Context:
The Life and Wealth (L&W) Risk function is responsible for effectively advising and challenging key stakeholders, challenging risks effectively and proactively, and adding value through providing enhanced business insights to ensure that risk is managed in line with the expectations of clients, shareholders and regulators, and to support the delivery of customers' long-term needs.
Operational Risk maintains the overall Operational Risk Framework, leads, co-ordinates and manages a range of risk management processes including overall risk reporting. The L&W Oversight Manager reports to the Head of Non-Financial Risk Oversight, L&W. The role holder will be responsible for the oversight and guidance of operational risk matters across the L&W businesses and will represent Operational Risk at relevant senior executive and management level committees as directed by the Head of NFR, L&W.
Key Responsibilities:
* Ensure compliance to the people policies, Group Code of Conduct and embedding desired behaviours
* Be personally accountable for identifying, assessing, managing and reporting risks within your area of responsibility, including supporting formal risk management activities e.g. Risk & Control Self Assessments and timely closure of Assurance actions
* Lead on the operational risk engagement with the Business Area on all operational risk matters and bring specialists in as required, including oversight of Business Area outsourcing partners.
* Represent Operational Risk at Business Area specific governance committees, risk forums or team meetings and provide risk business partnering approach.
* Lead on the oversight and guidance of Business Area implementation of Operational Risk Framework including workshop facilitation - e.g. RCSA, Notifiable Events, Risk Appetite (Tolerances, Limits and Triggers) and Scenarios.
* Development and maintenance of a relationship between the first line and Operational Risk that is positive, respectful and constructive including oversight of risk culture embeddedness.
* Lead on the delivery of Business Area specific Operational Risk training
* Lead, review and challenge of Business Area led root cause analysis.
* Oversight and guidance of major Business Area specific change management programmes.
* Manage and support the Senior Risk Analysts ensuring appropriate deployment, development and support.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
* An experienced financial services professional with a strong background in Risk Management and control (essential).
* Strong understanding of the regulatory framework for Non-Financial Risk Management and measurement within financial services (essential).
* A good understanding of the risk environment facing Life Insurance and/or Wealth businesses and the confidence to challenge the first line in the identification and assessment of their key risks and controls (essential).
* Strong presentation skills to senior level boards and committees with the ability to explain and articulate risk management concepts in context of Life Insurance and/or Wealth (essential).
* Strong written and verbal communication skills (essential).
* Strong stakeholder management and relationship building skills (essential).
* Ability to lead team initiatives and work colloboratively with other teams across the three lines of defence (essential).
* Significant risk management experience within the financial services industry (essential).
* Experience working with Executive Level stakeholders and presenting to committees (desired).
* Experience in operational risk oversight including the embedding of an operational risk framework in the first line of defence (desired).

Qualifications:
* Relevant professional qualification (e.g. IRM Diploma in Risk Mgt, CII, ACA, CIMA, ACCA, IIA).
