The role:In this role you will:
* Work closely with the Chief Engineer, Heritage Engineering team and Car Build departments to design and engineer components for heritage F1 cars.
* Design both metallic and composite parts, using systems such as Teamcenter, NX & MRS.
* Create schemes, detail designs, drawings for manufacture, assembly and installation.
* Ensure designs are aligned with relevant period of heritage car, to maintain authenticity.
* Perform calculations for component strength and function.
* Work effectively to deadlines and complete tasks set by Heritage Chief Engineer and Operations team. Seek advice and help from senior colleagues when necessary.
* Report faults to Chief Engineer and identify resolutions.
* Assist the Heritage department with planning, coordination and preparation of the show car programme.
* Follow the internal business processes and procedures when designing, procuring or demanding components. Utilising systems such as D365.
* Maintain open and clear lines of communication with entire heritage department.
* Liaise with suppliers and customers as required.
* Proactively assist with preparation, build and servicing of F1 cars, subcomponents and pit equipment (Williams and client owned) to Williams standards, prior to, during and post events. Adhere to and comply with design and specification requirements.
* Ensure the car, equipment, garage/event space and heritage workshop are presented to an elite standard. Williams Heritage operate a showcase facility visited by potential clients, sponsors and VIP’s.
* To form and maintain strong working relationships with across all Williams Racing departments. Inclusive but not limited to circumstances where Williams require resource from Event Support, Race Team and Third-Party Suppliers.
* Ensure you are aware of, comply with and actively enforce the Company Health and Safety requirements/associated policies.
* Represent and positively promote the Williams Racing brand and be knowledgeable and respectful of its Heritage.
* Ensure confidentiality is maintained, in all aspects of this position.
Qualifications
Core competencies:Students from a variety of Engineering degrees such as Mechanical Engineering are welcome to apply. We are unable to accept applications from students in their final year of their university studies.
What we are looking for:
* Ability to build relationships and be a team player
* Potential to swiftly adapt and integrate into a fast-paced environment
* Experience in technical data analysis using excel of other software
* Highly organised and process driven
* CAD design capabilities (preferred Siemens NX)
Placement student is primarily factory based, with potential travel required for, but not restricted to, client events, demonstrations and racing activities.
Core Skills:In addition to the above, candidates should have an interest in continuous improvement and some project management. We also heavily encourage applicants to let us know about any work experience or examples of developing knowledge or learning beyond academic courses.We strive to develop well rounded people with a passion for improvement of both the business and themselves. The ability to use CAD systems is of great importance and will allow the candidate to explore a steep learning curve and gain a great practical experience in engineering design.
