Job Description:
We are looking for an Occupational Therapist to work in our Home Treatment Team based at North Devon District Hospital. The successful candidate will be working on a shift-based rota. You will play an essential role in providing 24/7 specialist mental health services to those who need them.
Our Home Treatment Team (HTT) is a community-based service who supports people experiencing severe mental health issues and who require 'crisis' support. The aim of the team is to help people to manage and resolve their crisis through assessment and treatment in their home environment. Our Home Treatment Team also supports individuals who are being discharged from psychiatric hospital, enabling them to continue their recovery at home.
The workload is team-based, and team members do not carry a specific caseload. Occupational therapists work as part of the wider team undertaking regular shift patterns but would have protected time to undertake occupational therapy specific interventions.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will become part of a multidisciplinary team carrying out Home Treatment Team assessments, creating collaborative care plans that include families/carers, and signposting to appropriate agencies.
The role includes assessing the suitability of home treatment for individuals presenting with acute mental illness or severe distress, which can be safely managed in the person's home.
It will be your role to devise OT specific interventions that will help people to recover. You will play a key role in a dynamic multidisciplinary team, working with multiple agencies on a daily basis.
You will be confident working without direct supervision with the knowledge to devise individual recovery plans for the people you see. It's important you can communicate effectively, not only with your colleagues but the people you care for and their families and carers.
Home Treatment team visits are undertaken in HTT pool cars.
We will help you grow in the role, and can provide a range of training opportunities that can help you develop the skills you need to thrive in the job.
Supervision both managerial and clinical is provided within the role.
