This 6 to 12 month post is a senior fellowship for anaesthetists with at least five years of anaesthetic training.
The Department of Anaesthesia provides a service for all surgical specialities within Bart’s Health and is involved in many exciting initiatives. This is an excellent opportunity for a dynamic individual with the appropriate skills to join a first class multi-disciplinary team providing the full range ofservicesto the majority of East London and beyond in a progressive London teaching hospital environment.

Clinical Obstetric Anaesthesia
Gain experience in the provision of safe and effective anaesthetic care to patients undergoing complex obstetric deliveries/procedures, including the anaesthetic management of delivery for parturients with cardiac disease, abnormally invasive placenta and high BMI.
Gain experience in the management of a busy labour ward and elective and emergency obstetric theatre sessions, and in doing so develop the multi-disciplinary leadership, communication and team-working skills necessary to ensure that the care delivered is safe and timely.
Anaesthetic assessment and pre-operative MDT planning for complex deliveries. Attend the high-risk obstetric anaesthetic clinic, cardiac obstetric MDT clinic and obstetric medicine clinics.
Gain competence in the use of neuraxial ultrasound to facilitate regional anaesthesia.
Academic and Management
Design and conduct an audit or QI project, with the aim of publication/presentation locally and nationally, and to participate in on-going departmental research.
Gain experience in service development and writing clinical guidelines.
Gain management experience by attendance and involvement in departmental managerial meetings such as Labour Ward Forum and Clinical Risk Management Meetings.
Teaching
The post-holder will gain experience in the clinical supervision of CT2 anaesthetic trainees on the labour ward.
