The role
As Head of Fleet Engineering Support within our Naval Nuclear business, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary where you'll be key to the business.
Day to day, you will be a key player supporting the Director of Fleet Engineering, with the leadership, oversight and delivery of our Engineering Support and Manufacturing functions, to include the implementation and delivery of a cutting edge, best in practice output entailing excellent focus on quality and staff development.
The role will work closely within our Fleet Engineering Directorate to ensure we are continuing to provide a best in class service to our Naval customer in the delivery of complex Submarine maintenance and availability programmes.
* Ensure that the execution of all tasks are done so, in line with the Babcock Principles, driving to build a culture that is focused on the safe delivery of Submarine Availability.
* Deliver process, technical and business improvement using continuous improvement techniques to accelerate delivery in key business areas. Includes measuring Departmental performance and adoption of best practice by the introduction of innovate technological solutions (people, systems and technology).
* Develop and implement process, technical and production improvements to maximize current revenue opportunities whilst optimizing cost reduction activities and maintaining a focus on Submarine Availability.
* Ensure that adequate resources (SQEP people, facilities, equipment) are available to conduct vessel work packages, Includes the provision of leadership to all Fleet staff in the performance of their duties.
* Ensure the Fleet Engineering Support Department complies with appropriate legislation. Lead on Health, Safety, Security, Environment and Quality for the wider Fleet Engineering Support Team.
* Control expenditure of the Fleet Engineering Support Department within forecasted budget whilst actively seeking opportunities to increase income through engagement with the Business Improvement Organisation.
Essential experience of the Head of Fleet Engineering Support:
* Proven ability to lead, inspire and deliver positive change within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
* Experience of leading operational technical output in a commercial business, we would welcome applications from high integrity sectors such as Aviation, Defence, Marine, Oil & Gas, Rail or similar.
* Forward thinking – able to understand, adapt and deliver continuous improvements and future capability including technology adoption and new best practice methodologies.
* Commercial acumen, budgetary control experience.
* Passionate about the continuing professional development of resources and ensuring provision of cutting edge training and facilities.
37.5 hour working week. Full time offering Hybrid working.
Qualifications for the Head of Fleet Engineering Support:
* Degree in relevant Engineering or Management subject, or relevant career experience in a similar role.
* CEng with a relevant professional Engineering body is desirable but not essential.
* Any relevant professional qualifications in relation to Welding, Fabrication or Manufacture would be a benefit.
* NEBOSH or IOSH certification.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain SC clearance level for this role.
