We are looking for a Manufacturing Engineer to join our Metrology team based in Coventry.
Duties and Responsibilities
This role will involve engineering Subtractive Manufacturing processes from job request through to component delivery, including but not limited to:
1. The ME role is to turn a customer demand (a specification) into a method of manufacture that can then be executed to meet the customer demand within the required lead-time and cost.
2. The ME has responsibility to continuously improve manufacturing methods in order to reduce lead-time, reduce cost and minimise the chance of non-conformance.
3. As highly skilled practitioners, MEs are expected to be involved in the operation of the manufacturing processes to deliver the final product and exhibiting role model behaviours and practices for the equipment operatives.
4. The role also includes the operation of the manufacturing processes to deliver the final product.
The ideal candidate will be apprentice trained or have equivalent experience in:
1. Creating manufacturing methods and sequences.
2. Quoting job requests for lead-time and cost.
3. Creating Milling/turning CNC programs for components in 3/4/5 Axis.
4. Managing technical projects from initial quote through to a delivered product.
5. Resolving non-conformance to ensure an in-specification product is delivered to the customer.
6. Working with the customer to optimise the design of products (DfM) to ensure an optimum manufacturing method can be generated.
7. Optimising current manufacturing capability to ensure continuous reduction of waste. For example reduced tool wear or SMED.
8. Developing and coaching Technicians in manufacturing processes.
9. Operating manufacturing processes to deliver the customer deliverables.
10. Sharing lessons learned and best practices with the engineering teams.
Person Specification
We are looking for a candidate who is/has:
Essential Skills/Qualifications/Experience
1. Programming of CNC machines – Milling/turning, 3,4,5-Axis.
2. Reading and understanding Engineering Drawings.
3. Fully confident with the programming of measurement systems (Renishaw probing).
4. Ability to use CAD software (Solidworks/NX or similar).
5. Ability to use CAM software (NX/HyperMill or similar).
6. Excellent problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.
7. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
8. Ability to work within a team-focused environment.
9. HNC/HND/Degree qualified in an Engineering, Industrial or Manufacturing discipline.
Desirable Skills/Qualifications/Experience
1. Experience working in high precision machining environments such as aerospace, automotive, power and energy.
2. A track record of continuous improvement and project management.
3. Experience of developing and producing method of manufacture.
4. Data competent and able to manipulate data to explain a point of action.
