Chester Race Company has a fantastic opportunity for an adaptive and enthusiastic IT Infrastructure Engineer to join the IT team, based in the historic centre of Chester on a permanent, full-time contract.
This role will be pivotal in maintaining and delivering the smooth operation of all IT systems directly supporting business activities. The successful candidate will contribute to the overall efficiency and security of the IT environment through design, implementation, maintenance, and optimisation of the Group's IT infrastructure.

The Company, headquartered in Chester, owns two racecourses (Chester and Bangor-on-Dee) and operates a third course in Scotland, Musselburgh. At Chester, it also owns and operates an on-course hotel, and a vibrant pub and adjacent commercial premises in Chester city centre.
General responsibilities include:
* Creating and implementing network configurations, including local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), and other networking systems.
* Installing, configuring, and deploying hardware and software solutions, including servers, routers, switches, firewalls, and other infrastructure components.
* Diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, and network issues to minimise downtime.
* Implementing and managing security measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and data encryption to protect against cyber threats.
* Optimising the performance of IT infrastructure to improve speed, efficiency, and reliability.
* Planning for future growth by assessing current systems and forecasting future needs to ensure scalability.
* Implementing automation tools and scripts to streamline IT processes and improve efficiency.
* Generating reports on system performance, incidents, and maintenance activities for management review.
* Managing relationships with hardware and software vendors to ensure timely procurement and support.
* Ensuring that IT systems comply with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
The successful IT Engineer will have the following:
* Professional network vendor certification.
* Knowledge of cyber security principles and practices with experience of security tools.
* The ability to manage time effectively and prioritise tasks.
* Highly flexible and adaptable approach.
* Good communication skills and team working skills.
* Strong problem-solving skills.
* Experience deploying, managing and maintaining:
o Routers, switches, and firewalls.
o Virtual machines.
o On-premises VM host servers.
o NAS and SAN appliances.
o Backup and recovery solutions.
o Windows Server environments including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, ADCS, etc.
o Microsoft 365 suite including Exchange Online.

Salary: up to £40,000 per annum.
Hours of work:
37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday, including all race days at Chester. Race days at Bangor and Musselburgh/weekend working as required.
This role is based on-site and therefore reliable commute to Chester City centre is paramount.
