Museum & Tasglann nan Eilean, an exciting and busy heritage attraction, is looking for a Collections Assistant who will work with specialist staff in the Heritage Service to provide assistance in regard to the delivery of the Comhairle’s archive service. This will include collections care, cataloguing, responding to public enquiries and supervision of researchers. The Collections Assistant contributes to the day-to-day operation and administration of the archive reading room, based alongside Museum nan Eilean, Stornoway.
The Collections Assistant will work with colleagues in the Heritage Service to ensure a high standard of service is delivered to the public and partners across the Outer Hebrides.
They will undertake a range of collection duties across museum and archive collections including basic conservation and pest management, cataloguing, indexing, repackaging and sorting of archive and museum collections. The post will include irregular working hours.
Successful candidates will have a broad understanding and appreciation of the work of Archives and Museums and knowledge of the processes and procedures in managing data, keeping records and information. They should be educated to Higher level as minimum, have good verbal, communication and interpersonal skills with competent ICT skills. The ability to work accurately with attention to detail is vital.
It is essential they have experience of working with or using Archive, Museum or Library collections and experience of working with customers in a customer service role.
Salary for the above post is inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance. Appointment to the post will be on the first point of grade with annual incremental progression.
