Specialty Doctor in Anaesthetics
Job overview
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Specialty Doctor to join our friendly and sociable team in the Anaesthetic department. The anaesthetic service currently consists of 42 Consultants, 20 SAS doctors and 20 Trainees and covers all the areas expected from a large hospital. Medical specialties include inpatient nephrology and satellite dialysis units on 2 other sites.
The main clinical duties will include theatre sessions, critical care and obstetrics. In addition, the successful candidates will participate in the out-of-hours / emergency cover rota, complying with the Trust working time directive.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will join the Department’s on call rota at Doncaster Royal Infirmary. This job requires flexibility and the post-holder may be required to provide cover for resuscitation, critical care, obstetric, emergency theatres and transfers depending on the needs of the department.
The post-holder will cover lists alone or with a Consultant Anaesthetist. If working with a Consultant, the post-holder will be supervised by, and follow the instructions of the Consultant. If working alone, the post-holder will seek the guidance of the duty Consultant when clinically indicated.

Qualifications
* MBchB/MBBS or equivalent
* Completed at least four years’ full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty, or equivalent experience and competencies (evidence of CT2 and above competencies)
* Must have or be eligible for full registration with the General Medical Council at time of appointment and continue to hold a License to Practise.
* FRCA or equivalent
Experience and Achievements
* Must be able to demonstrate clinical experience and competence in all aspects of anaesthesia
* Capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge relevant to the role
* Experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk. Knows when to seek help, able to prioritise clinical need
* Understanding current issues within anaesthesia and the future direction of the specialty
* Understanding current issues within the wider NHS
Teaching and Training
* Experience of and enthusiasm for clinical teaching of postgraduate doctors and non-medical staff.
* Academic achievements/evidence of familiarity with research methods which have resulted in publications
Audit and Research
* Knowledge of Audit principles and evidence of participation in and completion of audit projects and the implementation of outcomes
* Critical Appraisal Skills
* Evidence of knowledge of research methodology
* Good communication and empathy skills with patients
