We are a welcoming GP surgery in Steyning, West Sussex, serving a patient population of approximately 12,000. We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Healthcare Assistant to join our team.
In this role, you will provide essential care and support to patients, ensuring high standards of healthcare are maintained. You will be working both independently and collaboratively with our Practice Nurses and General Practitioners to deliver excellent patient care. Strong communication skills and a patient-centred approach are essential for this role.
Main duties of the job
1. To provide nursing support to the Practice Nurses and General Practitioners to ensure the efficient and effective provision of the full range of nursing services to the patients of the practice.
2. The preparation and efficiency of treatment and GP rooms and treatment room equipment.
3. To maintain adequate clinical stock levels and medical stationery.
4. To maintain clean and tidy GP rooms.

Our clinical team includes 5 GP Partners, 6 Salaried GPs, 3 Practice Nurses, 2 Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANPs), a Women's Health Nurse, 2 Healthcare Assistants (HCAs), and an FPC Practitioner. They are supported by our dedicated non-clinical teams.
Job responsibilities
1. To undertake all duties in line with training and instruction provided by the Practice Nurses and General Practitioners.
2. Venepuncture and the taking and preparing of pathology samples.
3. Conduct weight and height measurements, test and record blood pressure and blood sugar levels.
4. The testing and results recording of clinical specimens.
5. Undertake ECGs.
6. Arrange 24-hour BP monitoring.
7. Assist with the provision of health checks.
8. To undertake dressings under supervision and training by the Practice Nurses.
9. Urea Breath Tests.
10. Ensure adequate stock levels in stock room, treatment rooms, and cupboards.
11. The checking and recording of medical supplies on receipt.
12. The inputting of information onto the clinical system.
13. The collection and replacement of clinical sharps waste, ensuring appropriate storage prior to disposal.
14. The ongoing cleaning of clinical equipment, trolleys, and working surfaces, preparing treatment rooms prior to use.
15. Ensure adequate infection control procedures in treatment and all consulting rooms.
16. Work safely at all times in accordance with Legislative requirements and Practice Policy and Procedures.
17. To assist General Practitioners and Women's Health Nurse in looking after patients whilst having minor operations and IUD fittings.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* To be phlebotomy trained.
* Experience in a healthcare support role within a clinical or primary care environment.
* A relevant qualification in health and social care (e.g., NVQ Level 2 or 3).
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate and patient-focused approach.
* Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
