Key Responsibilities:
1. Work with the Board of Directors, Governing Council, staff and associated external bodies to develop a shared understanding of the Trust's vision, values, and strategic aims.
2. Work closely with the Chief Executive and senior colleagues to shape and manage our long-term strategic objectives.
3. Undertake an active role in shaping and delivering the hospital services strategy ensuring that services are in line with national guidance.
4. Work closely with primary, community, and specialist colleagues (e.g., mental health), providing organisational and system leadership to improve clinical outcomes.
5. Develop and improve clinical pathways and deliver system-wide transformation projects.
6. Advise the Chief Executive and the Board of Directors on all aspects of medical, clinical governance and medicine management issues.
7. Develop effective working relationships with the Associate Medical Directors, Divisional Directors, and Clinical Leads to ensure that the views of clinicians are available to the Board and implications of decisions are made explicit to the Board.
Corporate Management:
1. Work with the Executive Director colleagues to establish and continuously develop a clinical leadership model which ensures that all clinicians have the ability to influence decisions at all levels of the organisation.
2. Take responsibility for leading and co-coordinating programmes of improvement in line with our approach to continuous improvement and national and regional initiatives.
3. Provide expert professional and clinical advice to the Board of Directors.
4. Contribute to response and resolution of statutory contractual and service obligations, financial viability, risk and public relation issues.
5. Ensure the clinical voice is heard within the organisation and clinicians at all levels are informed and actively engaged in the development of strategic direction and programmes of improvement.
Medical Workforce Development:
1. Lead the workforce development and transformation required to deliver STP and LDP plans, and our Clinical Service Strategy.
2. Lead the development of integrated clinical pathways and the clinical workforce modelling required to support delivery of these.
3. Lead the development and implementation of clinical delivery models to meet the requirements of national strategic imperatives, e.g., 7-day working / patient safety improvements.
4. Identify further opportunities for new ways of working/roles to address recruitment and retention challenges.
5. Deliver healthcare reform to drive improvement in services and responsiveness to patients.
6. Ensure all junior doctor rotas remain compliant with external standards and legislation.
Clinical Governance:
1. Provide leadership, structure and clarity to the medical profession through the identification and promulgation of appropriate clinical and performance standards.
2. Monitor the performance of our medical staff against established clinical standards.
3. In conjunction with the Director of Nursing and Midwifery, take the lead in developing systems for ensuring effective clinical governance across the organisation.
4. Implement systems to ensure all of our doctors are aware of their professional obligations to apply and comply with all relevant organisational and GMC procedures.
5. Take the lead in all medical disciplinary matters.
6. Take the lead in the medical input to CQC monitoring and inspection processes and performance management.
Information Governance:
1. Ensure compliance with clinically recognised information management standards.
2. Contribute to the assessment of compliance against the standards of the 'Information Governance Toolkit'.
3. Perform the lead role for Information Governance on the Board of Directors.
4. Take personal responsibility for safeguarding and ensuring the quality of information.
Revalidation Responsible Officer:
1. Take on the responsibilities associated with the role of Responsible Officer as defined by the GMC.
