We are delighted to be looking to appoint a 1.0wte band 5 dietitian / band 6 Specialist Dietitian (depending on experience), to work at Newcastle Hospitals within renal services. Applicants will either be offered a band 5 with development opportunities to work towards a band 6 pending completion of competencies or a band 6, depending on experience. Working within the regional renal unit and transplant centre for the north east of England. This role provides an opportunity to gain experience in general nephrology, haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, transplant surgery and critical care within both the inpatient and outpatient setting.
You will join our friendly department of 45 dietitians and have the great opportunity to work within the renal dietetic team at the Freeman Hospital. This is a fantastic opportunity to broaden your dietetic experience within an already established team. You should have an interest in renal dietetics and all training will be provided.

The renal dietitians enjoy a high profile within the renal directorate, with excellent MDT relationships and support. They work to provide a high quality service to renal patients and are actively involved in research and development at local and national level. To deliver this service, some occasional working outside of normal hours may be required. The department is part of Newcastle Nutrition, an enthusiastic and committed dietetic organisation, and benefits from excellent support.
The post holder will be required to:
* Deliver a high quality dietetic service to patients within the renal service
* Take part in student training and supervision
* Contribute to research and audit
* Work effectively as part of the MDT
You should be enthusiastic and self-motivated and will:
* Have a broad knowledge of general dietetics
* Be able to demonstrate ongoing CPD and have evidence of developing practice
* Be able to support colleagues and take responsibility for the clinical supervision of junior staff and students
* Have excellent communication skills
* Be able to maintain good relationships with colleagues and the wider MDT

Band 5
* Deliver a comprehensive and effective clinical nutrition and dietetic service to patients at hospital sites or in the community.
* Provide dietetic assessment, diagnosis, treatment, monitoring and management in the clinical setting.
* Act as a source of expertise in nutrition support and dietetics to patients, consultant medical staff, other health care professionals, carers and relatives.
* Deliver education and training to other healthcare staff and to patient groups.
* Participate in team, multi-disciplinary audit and research.
Band 6
* Delivers a comprehensive and effective clinical nutrition and dietetic service in acute hospital services in the specialist area/s or in the community. See appendix for in depth job details.
* Provides specialist dietetic assessment, diagnosis, treatment, monitoring and management in the clinical setting and in one or more sub-specialty areas. This may include supplementary prescribing.
* Acts as a source of expertise in nutrition support/education and dietetics to patients, medical staff, health care professionals, relatives, carers and all relevant agencies.
* Provides expertise to Nutrition Teams and works in other multidisciplinary teams.
* Delivers education and training at all levels.
* Participates in team and multi-disciplinary evaluation, audit and research.
