Qualified Arborist Location: Waltham Abbey Salary: up to 35K depending on experience This is an outstanding career opportunity with a market leader providing arboricultural services to private and public sector businesses. Arboriculture carries out a wide range of tree-related works for domestic, commercial & public sector clients, throughout London and the South East. We are looking for staff to join our arboriculture teams based in Waltham Abbey. Services offered in this region include woodland and estate management, vegetation management, fencing, tree surgery, forestry and environmental engineering projects. Our depot currently employs 8 qualified and experienced full-time arborists and 2 full-time trainee/apprentice arborists. Working from 7 am - 4.30 pm 5 days per week. Regular paid overtime is also available outside of these hours. Our arborists benefit from a vast array of tools and equipment, from high-end timberwolf chippers, Husqvarna and Stihl handheld equipment including battery equivalent tools, Mobile Elevated Platforms, remote-controlled stump grinders and 3.5t - 7.5t arb spec vehicles. Ongoing refresher training Tailored training and development programmes A Glimpse of the Role • Reporting to the Team Leader, the post holder’s key responsibility shall be climbing arboricultural duties, including tree pruning, dismantling and felling. • Day-to-day tasks include: • Off-ground arboricultural skills: branch removal with power saws and hand tools as required, the ability to perform aerial rescue; • On-ground arboricultural skills: tree felling with power saws and hand tools, brushwood chipping, traffic management, respect for Health and Safety, work site organisation; • Assist colleagues in their work, for example the complex breakdown of a tree’s crown and the dismantling of the stem; • Undertake basic arboriculture operations with appropriate regard for third party property, for example taking due care and attention when working adjacent to walls, fences, greenhouses, shed roofs etc; • Undertake activities utilising underpinning knowledge, for example interpretation of plans, site preparation and management; • Operate a range of machinery, including power tools and light plant such as stump grinding or brushwood chipping machinery; • Drive company vehicles as required; • Ensure that the principles of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 are adhered to at all times, for personal safety and that of colleagues and the general public; • Carry out routine maintenance. A skilled Arborist would be required to demonstrate that he/she had received adequate training and had obtained a relevant certificate or national competence award to use a saw in a tree, and ton demonstrate a sound understanding of the arboricultural business. The arborist will be able to produce certificates of competence in relevant subjects, as issued by the NPTC, or other such bodies.
