We are currently looking for a Senior NPD Designer
The Senior NPD Designer is responsible for developing and implementing product development plans in collaboration with the Head of Commercial, ensuring alignment with the business and category strategy. This role oversees the end-to-end management of NPD (New Product Development) and EPD (Existing Product Development) projects for major and minor customers, driving creative innovation and operational excellence.
By combining customer and consumer insights with innovative thinking, the Senior NPD Designer will influence product launches and processes to maintain category growth and deliver exceptional products that exceed customer expectations. This position also focuses on building a high-performing team, managing critical projects, and fostering strong customer relationships.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver exceptional NPD/EPD projects, ensuring products align with the business strategy and meet customer expectations.
* Implement design solutions that drive innovation and process efficiency across all project phases.
* Foster a high-performing product development team by providing guidance, training, and constructive feedback.
* Evaluate team skills and identify areas for improvement, championing professional development initiatives.
* Partner with internal teams (Commercial, Operations, Procurement, Technical, and Supply Chain) to ensure cohesive project execution.
* Act as the voice of the customer, providing clear and actionable insights to guide project direction and outcomes.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, influencing the development process and delivering tailored solutions.
* Ensure all customer requirements, including paperwork and samples, are delivered accurately and on time.
* Maintain smooth operations within the NPD facility, ensuring high standards of organisation, housekeeping, and resources.
* Ensure all product launches are backed by robust planning and delivery timelines to meet business and customer objectives.
* Work closely with the Head of Commercial to develop, agree, and implement NPD/EPD plans that align with customer and category strategies.
* Lead direct customer partnerships, building relationships to influence the direction of development.
* Present innovative category concepts, including rationale, to customers collaboratively with the Commercial team.
* Play an active role in planning and executing customer range reviews, ensuring alignment with stakeholder priorities.
* Oversee the complete design process, from concept generation through first production, producing high-quality products.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Commercial, Operations, Procurement, Technical, and Supply Chain) to enable successful product launches.
* Manage critical project paths, resource allocation, and timelines to ensure the timely delivery of projects.
* Use consumer data and market insights to develop innovative design solutions and grow product categories.
* Benchmark and monitor the quality of existing and new products, ensuring attributes are maintained throughout the supply chain.
* Drive transformative innovation to delight customers and maintain alignment with business strategies.
* Build team capabilities through regular performance assessments, 1:1 meetings, and annual reviews.
* Provide coaching on design best practices, process awareness, and commercial understanding to enhance team effectiveness.
* Act as a role model, leading by example with a passion for products and a proactive approach to collaboration and tasks.
* Ensure all critical project paths and development plans are communicated across teams to deliver seamless execution.
* Partner with Procurement colleagues to identify opportunities for innovation and cost-saving across categories and the business.
* Ensure the NPD facility operates efficiently with good housekeeping and resource management standards.
* Serve as the customer relationship lead for new product development, engaging NPD Developers to strengthen partnerships.
* Ensure all customer-required samples and paperwork are delivered accurately and promptly for successful launch outcomes.
* Actively contribute to the delivery of "comp shops" with insights and practical solutions.
* Champion the organisation’s culture and values by demonstrating agility, flexibility, teamwork, and a commitment to business goals.
* Share innovative ideas, collaborate on refined operational methods, and consistently contribute to developing new ways of working.
What you can already do
* Significant experience in product design, development, and launch within FMCG or a related industry.
* Proven ability to manage end-to-end NPD/EPD processes across multiple customers or product categories.
* Strong commercial understanding, with the ability to apply consumer data to product and category development strategies.
* Demonstrated leadership and team development experience, with a clear track record of growing team capabilities.
* Exceptional project management skills, including planning, coordination, and delivering against timelines.
* Outstanding relationship management skills, with experience influencing internal teams and external stakeholders.
* Excellent communication and presentation skills with a customer-focused approach.
* Familiarity with supply chain and procurement processes, particularly related to FMCG or retail.
* Hands-on experience applying consumer data to drive creative product solutions.
* Prior experience managing NPD facilities or event preparation.
