Role Overview: We are seeking an experienced Satellite Communications Engineer to oversee satellite communications (Satcom) technical analysis for military land terminals used in highly resilient and hostile environments. This key role involves the analysis, documentation, and management of detailed technical requirements, leading to their approval with front-line users. You will also manage supplier negotiations, project cost modelling, planning, procurement, verification, and final system acceptance within the MOD. Key Responsibilities: Perform Satcom technical analysis for military land terminals, ensuring operational resilience. Lead the generation and flow-down of technical requirements, overseeing approval with users and stakeholders. Engage in supplier negotiations, project cost estimation, and planning. Take technical ownership of the verification process, including testing and final acceptance of Satcom terminals. Provide expert guidance in system tests with end-users, ensuring all requirements are met. Future Role Requirements: Present NGLT requirements to potential suppliers at industry days. Lead technical reviews of bidder responses during the procurement process. Oversee modifications to the Statement of Requirements prior to contract negotiations. Serve as the technical authority for the MOD throughout design reviews, factory acceptance tests (FAT), site acceptance tests (SAT), and user trials. Apply in-depth knowledge of SATCOM transmission segments, implementation options, and performance metrics to assess system requirements. Background Required: Minimum 10 years of experience in Military Satellite Communications (Mil Satcom) with a strong focus on land terminals. Expertise in Satellite Communication Link Budget Analysis under both benign and jammed conditions. Familiarity with resilient modem waveforms and operational analysis for Satcom systems. Solid understanding of IP and serial baseband equipment, cryptography, and key management. Experience with Satcom Network Management, including the derivation of use cases and functional requirements. Knowledge of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) processes is highly desirable. Experience with environmental and EMC specifications for Mil Satcom terminals. Comprehensive understanding of system engineering and the full V-cycle for Mil Satcom terminals, including verification testing and performance assessment. Security Requirements: The project is likely to involve UK-Eyes Only (UKSUKEO) elements. Candidates must be willing to undergo Developed Vetting (DV) clearance.
