The Opportunity:
Due to an exciting pipeline of major infrastructure projects, we are looking to expand the Advanced Manufacturing Engineering function within the Global Technology and Innovation function at Laing O'Rourke with the appointment of a Controls & Automation Engineer based from Sherwood Business Park, Nottinghamshire.
The Advanced Manufacturing Engineering function is part of the Laing O'Rourke Technology and Innovation Group (T&I) responsible for developing innovative technologies and evolving transferrable technologies from other industry sectors; aimed at transforming construction industry methods to improve safety, quality and productivity whilst increasing diversity & inclusion within our operations.
What will the role look like?
The role provides technical competence in the Technology and Innovation Department within Laing O'Rourke's operations. The role covers both new product introduction programmes (NPI) & functional support for existing business operations.
This entails controls expertise for:
* Product development & implementation of systems in support of new & existing product sets.
* Development of controls solutions for Manufacturing, assembly & installation equipment for new & existing product sets.
* Development & installation of world class production systems & facilities for the offsite production of civil & infrastructure components.
* Technology solutions & innovations for on-site construction activities.
Role Accountabilities
* Health, Safety and Environment
* Control system design & development for new technologies & production systems
* Specification & procurement of controls systems & equipment.
* Installation of new production processes & Capital equipment
* Creating & maintaining process control system training initiatives
* Data collation & analysis in support of continuous improvement activities.
* Prototyping, trials and testing, planning & execution
* General Engineering and workshop activity
* Management of suppliers & contractors
Major Objectives
* Provide control systems expertise.
* Conduct trials and test activity.
* Implement production processes & equipment in line with LOR's HSE, cost, time & quality targets.
* Procurement & development of new equipment and controls solutions.
* Support preproduction development activities.
* Support continuous improvement activities across the LOR businesses.
* Support installation, commissioning, ramp up & launch phases for project activities.
* Provide fault finding support & expertise for control systems.
* PLC program expertise and authoring.
What skills & experience are we looking for?
* Controls & systems feasibility analysis.
* Team work ethic.
* Development from concept to implementation.
* Process equipment & manufacturing systems control.
* Equipment acceptance tests & installation.
* Working with equipment suppliers & subcontractors.
* PLC programming capability.
* General Engineering competence, Manufacturing systems experience, Equipment control system development, Practical & hands-on approach where required are advantageous.
Qualifications
* Minimum of HNC in controls & instrumentation engineering.
* Expertise in control systems & PLC control, Relevant Engineering qualifications and Robot programming experience would be advantageous.
