This position is for 22.5 hours over 3 days. We are seeking applications from enthusiastic, self-motivated Registered Dental Nurses who hold the National Certificate in Dental Nursing or NVQ Level 3 in Dental Nursing to join this busy large purpose-built unit at UHPT, Derriford Hospital, Plymouth. Restorative dentistry, orthodontic, and surgical experience is desirable. You will work in a friendly unit that provides oral surgery, orthodontic, and restorative dental treatment. There will be a requirement to work in the day case theatre. You must be registered with the General Dental Council.
Main duties of the job
1. Working in a multidisciplinary department providing dental nursing support to the clinical team in Restorative Dentistry, Orthodontics, and Maxillofacial Surgery.
2. Four-handed dentistry and surgical experience is desirable.
3. A working knowledge of all aspects of HTM-O1-05.
4. Being compassionate, supportive, and empathetic towards patients who have complex needs.
5. You will work within a purpose-built unit and be expected to collaborate with the wider team.

Job Description
The Dental Nurse is to work alongside dental nursing colleagues to provide chair-side assistance and clinical support for members of the Dental Specialties Unit, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and Orthodontic Department. Planning/Clinical duties will include:
1. Work within the General Dental Council scope of practice guidelines for Registered Dental Nurses.
2. Undertake the departmental induction.
3. Complete the skills-based competency checklist for each of the three areas.
4. Provide dental nurse assistance to clinical staff for dental and orthodontic procedures and assist with surgical procedures carried out in the outpatient department under local anaesthetic and theatre under general anaesthetic.
5. Provide support and assistance to the Dental Hygienist, Oral Health Educator, and other dental care professionals.
6. Organise diagnostic, treatment, and review clinics.
7. Be able to set up for routine procedures in specialist areas.
8. Comply with Plymouth Hospitals Trust policies and procedures.
Person Specification
Knowledge & Experience
* Able to undertake routine dental nursing procedures with underpinning proven knowledge.
* Proven evidence of continued professional development.
Qualifications
* National Certificate in Dental Nursing or NVQ Level 3 in Oral Health Care.
* GDC Registration.
Aptitude & Abilities
* Good communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to demonstrate fluency, clarity, and effectiveness.
* Effective influencing skills: in general and with patients, relatives, and carers.
