Act as the deputy to the ward manager, regularly taking charge of the ward and ensuring that the standards and quality of care given to patients, together with the environment in which care is delivered, are maintained at a high standard.

Training & Qualifications
Essential criteria
* Current level One NMC registration
* Possess a Teaching & Assessing Qualification
* Demonstrate basic IT skills
* Able to administer IV medications/infusions
Desirable criteria
* Formal leadership/management training
* Chemo trained/willing to complete training
* Evidence of continuing professional development/reflective profile
* Completion of all local competency packages or has undertaken Working in New Ways packages essential to role and Specialty
* Possession of a mentor/SSSA course
Experience
Essential criteria
* Significant post-registration experience in haematology/oncology
* Supervision of non-registered and pre-registration staff/students
* Experience leading a team/shift efficiently and effectively
* Experience caring for, and managing, acutely unwell patients
Desirable criteria
* Active involvement with a link-role/project work
* Experience of audit/service development and improvement
* Providing staff with feedback on their individual performance and conduct appraisals
Communication & Relationship Skills
Essential criteria
* Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication skills
* Produce timely, accurate written/electronic records and documents
* Confident in escalation to the medical team/CCOT/matrons/DLT if necessary
* Can minimise interpersonal conflict and barriers to communication
* Ability to convey sensitive information in a caring/compassionate manner
Desirable criteria
* Evidence of negotiation and influencing skills
* Demonstrate evidence of providing formal teaching sessions
* Demonstration of team working and ability to work within a team
Analytical and Judgement skills
Essential criteria
* Demonstrate an ability to assess, plan, deliver, prioritise and evaluate patient care
* Demonstrate an understanding of the deputy sister/charge nurse role
* Able to respond to problem situations and to ensure that effective interventions are put in place
* Ability to assess ward environment and ensure high standards of cleanliness and order
* Successful implementation and management of a nursing change process

* Evidence of moving and handling training
