Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic, innovative clinical psychologist interested in an opportunity to gain experience, knowledge and skills in working in paediatric burns and acute services. You will be part of an experienced multidisciplinary specialist team and will have excellent opportunities to develop your knowledge, skills and in working with young people with health conditions. You will be supported by an experienced Consultant Clinical Psychologist in your role.
This role can be offered as a band 7 preceptorship to 8A.
Professionally the post holder will be part of a larger group of psychologists within Psychological Health Services working within a large group of adult and paediatric specialities within this large acute Trust. We are a valued, well established and supportive service with a strong commitment to clinical supervision, continuing professional development, innovative service development and research. We have well established links to clinical psychology training courses in the South West.
Main duties of the job
1. To provide needs led evidenced based targeted and specialist intervention for patients.
2. To provide applied psychological consultation, staff support and training for multidisciplinary professionals working in Universities Hospital Trust Bristol and Weston.

* Doctorate in clinical psychology
Knowledge and Experience
Essential
* Post qualification experience of working as a clinical psychologist with young people/adults who have a physical health condition.
* Post qualification experience of working as a clinical psychologist providing psychological consultation, case management supervision and training to multi-professional and multi-agency teams.
* Post qualification experience of working as a clinical psychologist undertaking consultation and service development work within a multi-disciplinary physical health setting.
* Formal teaching/presentation sessions to health and other professionals.
* Demonstrable understanding of the implications of acute and long term conditions and disability for young people/adults as applicable.
* Demonstrable understanding of the roles of a clinical psychologist within multi-professional health teams in relation to the young person/adult, the staff team and the organisation.
* Demonstrable knowledge of legislation and guidance pertaining to safeguarding of vulnerable adults, consent, confidentiality and standards of psychological care within relevant NICE and other guidance.
* Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology.
Skills and Abilities
Essential
* Ability to assess the psychological needs of young people/adults seen by these specialities, including the use of cognitive and developmental psychometric tests.
* Ability to generate systemic and individual psychological formulations and interventions based on applying psychological theories and models to the complex information generated by the young person/adult and social care systems.
* Ability to access, record and manage information and data pertaining to the work undertaken in medical and psychology notes, databases and electronic records as required.
* Ability to prioritise and manage available time for clinical work and professional activities effectively and safely.
* Able to travel to regional clinics, meetings and home visits if required.
Aptitudes
Essential
* Advanced communication skills with the ability to provide and receive highly complex and sensitive information to and from young people/adults in a culturally appropriate manner in highly emotive situations. This will include the ability to provide complex psychological information to staff in an accessible manner.
