Description of Job: Margate Church is an Anglican Church in the heart of East Kent with a vision to see people know Jesus as the Way, The Truth and The Life.
The Rising Generations Pastor is responsible for leadership, vision and culture of our Youth (11-17s) and Kids and Families (0-10s) Ministries at Margate Church. They are responsible for team culture amongst the teams of leaders and the children themselves. The Rising Generations Pastor will advocate for children and young people within the church and community through action and prayer. They will be responsible for the safeguarding within the Youth and Kids Ministries, working with the Safeguarding Team.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Build, develop and implement a strategic Youth and Kids ministry plan tailored for 11-17s and 0-10s at Margate Church.
2. Lead the delivery of the Youth and Kids ministries on Sundays and throughout the week, including one-off outreach events.
3. Make connections with local primary schools and other children’s projects in Thanet.
4. Provide support and training for parents/carers in the discipleship of their children, such as Parenting for Faith courses.
5. Lead and develop the weekly toddler group along with the team of volunteers.
6. Create a fun and engaging curriculum for our children and young people, focusing on encountering Jesus and living out their faith every day.
7. Provide pastoral care, working with a team of volunteers.
8. Connect with and resource other churches within Margate Church and neighbouring churches in Margate.
9. Work creatively.
10. Support, train and grow the Youth and Kids volunteer team.
11. Youth and Kids Ministry administration; such as planning and communicating volunteer rotas, managing the children database, purchasing, recruiting, networking, planning events, internal and external communication about the Youth and Kids ministry.
12. Commit to praying for and with the children and parents/carers of Margate Church.
General Responsibilities:
1. Follow Margate Church’s Safeguarding Policy and ensure completion of safeguarding training as required.
2. Follow Margate Church’s Health and Safety Policy and complete risk assessments.
3. Act as a role model for the Youth and Kids teams, demonstrating what it means to be a follower of Jesus both ‘on and off duty’.
4. Maintain attendance records of children at services and other kids ministry events via ChurchSuite and any other associated admin.
5. Maintain and be responsible for the Kids and Families Ministry budget.
Qualifications:
1. Minimum of 2+ years experience of working with youth, kids and their parents/carers in the context of church Youth/Kids ministry.
2. Minimum of 2+ years experience of building, leading, training and motivating volunteers.
3. A team player: proactive, collaborative and flexible.
4. Excellent communication skills in formal and informal settings.
5. Excellent organisational and IT skills.
6. Understanding of current legislation affecting youth work, including Safeguarding and Health & Safety, and experience of implementing best practice in these areas.
7. Able to hold a valid DBS check certificate.
8. A personal and evident Christian faith.
9. Ability to commit to attending Margate Church as your church and engage with the local community.
10. A flexible approach to working hours.
11. Must attend worship services regularly and participate as an active member of Margate Church.
12. While the role is Sunday to Thursday, the role holder will need to be available to work key dates e.g., APCM, Easter, Christmas, Focus Week away for which time off in lieu will be given, if appropriate.
13. Attendance at Tuesday morning staff meeting 9.00am – 10.30am.
14. The role will be subject to the satisfactory completion of an Enhanced DBS Check.
