HSE Manager (Civil Engineering) The HSE Manager plays a crucial role within our organisation, acting as a leader and a driving force for continual improvement, innovation, and change to achieve excellence in project delivery. This position requires a balanced approach, combining hands-on involvement in on-site activities with strategic oversight of the Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) direction of the contracting business unit, in collaboration with the Group Head of HSE. Key Responsibilities ·Develop innovative approaches to promote a strong health and safety culture and awareness. ·Work collaboratively with the wider HSE team, mentoring and upskilling to deliver exceptional results. ·Manage HSE resources to ensure optimal project coverage, efficiency, and output. ·Analyse business unit needs and contribute to the development of strategic HSE plans. ·Ensure compliance with the organisation's management system. ·Provide multisite support for assigned projects. ·Advise and monitor legal compliance and industry best practices across departments. ·Assist in the creation and development of Safe Systems of Work. ·Operate independently or within a team to meet project-specific requirements. ·Conduct training sessions and lead cultural campaigns to enhance awareness and compliance. ·Inspire and upskill colleagues, acting as a proactive leader within the organisation. ·Chair Health, Safety, and Environmental meetings, offering positive and forward-thinking contributions. ·Facilitate employee consultations and feedback initiatives. ·Provide guidance on compliance with CDM 2015 regulations. ·Establish and maintain effective monitoring and reporting systems to meet project and business needs. ·Track and report on KPI performance in alignment with business and contractual objectives. ·Collaborate with department heads, project personnel, and supply chain partners to promote HSE excellence. ·Conduct thorough investigations of accidents, incidents, and near-misses. ·Provide operational teams with HSE expertise and hands-on support to drive meaningful change. About You General Requirements ·NEBOSH qualification. ·Membership with IOSH. ·A full UK driving license. ·A minimum of 5 years of HSE experience. ·Strong knowledge and application of HSE legislation. ·Ability to prioritise and manage multisite coverage effectively. ·Excellent time management and organisational skills. ·Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. ·A pragmatic problem solver with a detail-oriented mindset. ·A self-motivated professional eager to learn and develop. ·Ability to work independently and as part of a team. ·Clear and concise communication skills. Desirable Qualifications ·Experience in highways projects. ·GradIOSH/CMIOSH status or working towards it. ·NVQ Level 5/6, Diploma, or Degree qualification.
