Are you an experienced SaLT looking to extend your clinical leadership skills? We are a dynamic forensic SaLT team, looking for someone who can bring in highly specialist Learning Disability skills and knowledge and transfer this to a medium secure forensic setting.
East London Foundation Trust is looking for a HCPC registered Speech and Language Therapist (SaLT) to join the Forensic Inpatient Team for Adults with Learning Disabilities. Joining an MDT working with individuals with mild and moderate learning disabilities, some of whom are Autistic. Experience working within Learning Disability, Autism or Mental Health settings is essential for this role.
The role will provide the right candidate with the opportunity to clinically supervise and line manage junior colleagues, with excellent opportunities for CPD and line management from 8a SaLT. Dysphagia experience is welcomed but not essential.
Main duties of the job
1. To provide clinical leadership, supervision and professional development support for junior speech and language therapists and students based within forensics.
2. To provide expert advice and highly specialist speech and language therapy assessment and intervention for adults with learning disabilities and their carers/families.
3. Highly specialist assessment and advice on feeding / dysphagia and management of complex cases.
4. To ensure that speech and language therapy input within forensics reflects current best practice and is evidence-based.
5. To collate both quantitative and qualitative information regarding speech and language therapy referrals, interventions and outcomes and use this information to inform service development.
6. To be actively involved in service development initiatives both within forensics and in the wider context providing an expert speech and language therapy perspective.
7. To promote integrated and collaborative working both within and across forensics, ELFT and with external providers.
8. To work closely with SaLT Manager, Lead Clinicians, Senior Practitioners and other disciplines within forensics; Primary and Secondary health services; social care teams, and other organisations that support people with learning disabilities in forensics.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
This job description is not exhaustive but is intended to give an overall picture of the role and associated responsibilities.
1. Responsible for the assessment, differential diagnosis, advice, development and implementation of highly specialist treatment plans for a caseload of adults with learning disabilities with highly complex needs.
2. To maintain appropriate records in line with Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists guidelines.
3. To continually develop and evaluate clinical practice, and achieve goals set for personal and professional development.
4. To identify, plan, deliver and evaluate highly specialist training.
5. To provide highly specialist clinical support to other Speech and Language Therapists, assistants, students and volunteers.
6. To be involved in clinical governance/audit projects within local service.
7. To act as clinical resource for issues relating to the highly specialist area of people with learning disability in a forensic setting.
8. To plan the provision of resource for Speech and Language Therapy input into learning disability Forensic Services.
9. To hold a highly specialist caseload of adults with learning disabilities / Autism in a forensic setting.
10. To act as clinical lead for communication and / or dysphagia with people with learning disabilities who have offended within medium and low secure services.
11. To assess and manage a dysphagia caseload.
12. To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of professional and clinical work, working to agreed local, national, and professional standards.
13. To provide specialist advice to the Trust and support the organisation through the provision of resources, training, and education.
Person specification
Skills and Knowledge
* BSc in Speech and Language Therapy
* Masters in a relevant subject or evidence of significant postgraduate study
* Registration with HCPC
* Membership of RCSLT
* Recognised qualifications / training in specialist areas relevant to the role
* Knowledge of Safeguarding and its application in practice
* Knowledge of Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act and their application in practice.
* Skills in design and delivery of training
Experience
* At least 5 years post qualification experience
* SaLT experience with LD, Autism or Mental Health client group
* Provision of Clinical Supervision
* Experience in risk assessment and management
* Significant experience in Co-production
* Working with Forensic or Prison populations
* Experience participating in Quality Improvement Projects
