We are looking to appoint a full-time Senior Clinical Fellow in Vascular Neurosurgery to the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based at Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield. The post holder should have at least 4 years' worth of neurosurgical experience at a registrar level. This is a service post and is fixed term for 12 months (commencing in August 2025) in the first instance, this may be subject to review.

The post is suited for individuals who wish to further a career in Neuro-vascular subspecialty of Neurosurgery in the United Kingdom or overseas. The post does not attract a National Training Number. However reasonable support will be available for appointees to pursue respective training needs identified. The duties of this post are equivalent to an ST6+ trainee in Neurosurgery. As this post is not recognised as a 'training post', full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise is required, and if the appointee does not hold right of residence in the UK sponsorship will be required.
Main duties of the job
This is a new post designed to support the Neurosurgical team, based predominantly at Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield. The successful post holder will work mainly under supervision of the Neuro-vascular Team including Mr Andrew Bacon and Mr Kishor Choudhari. The post holder will work alongside Trainee doctors at the same level attending neuro-vascular clinics, theatres & ward rounds. A full shift out of hours working pattern is in operation in line with service requirements.
Job responsibilities
The appointee will be responsible in their duties to all the Consultant Neurosurgeons and in some specific aspects of duties to any person that may be nominated by them.
* To provide the day to day clinical care of the neurosurgical patients which he/she is assigned.
* To take part on ward rounds - daily business ward rounds and additional Consultant ward rounds.
* To assist at or perform various operations within his/her range of competence.
* To attend outpatient clinics as required.
* To provide out of hours services in rotation with other members of the junior staff.
* To undertake any specific clinical and related responsibilities delegated to him/her by the Consultant Neurosurgeons.
* To teach junior doctors, undergraduate medical students, nursing and other paraclinical staff as appropriate.
* To take part and present cases at joint weekly departmental (Neurosciences, Neuroradiology, Neuropathology) and MDT meetings, at the regular Audit meetings, at the weekly Neurosurgical Trainees Teaching, and on the weekly Grand Round.
* To record relevant clinical details and maintain accurate case notes for patients admitted under the care of his/her firm.
* To summarise the clinical findings on presentation of all emergency patients admitted when working out of hours (full shift).
* To prepare detailed operation notes on the day surgery is performed with short, relevant pre-operative clinical data.
* To prepare discharge summaries on the day of discharge.
* To deal with outpatient and other correspondence in an appropriate and timely manner.

Essential
* Registered with the GMC with a licence to practise.
* Medical Degree from a recognised UK or overseas university or institution.
* Have evidence of completion of FRCS (Surgical Neurology) or equivalent overseas qualifications in Neurosurgery.
