We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.
This 10 session fixed term (6 months) Speciality and Associate Specialist grade post in unscheduled care within the Greater Glasgow and Clyde Liaison Psychiatry Service. The Community Mental Health Acute Care Service is a new and comprehensive service which provides mental health care, treatment and support as a safe and effective alternative to hospital admission or prolonged inpatient stay. The service has been developed as part of a comprehensive review and reconfiguration of all mental health unscheduled care services across NHS GGC and the service has begun appointing unscheduled care medical staff to post.

This SAS post will be supervised by the consultant psychiatrists in unscheduled care, and the consultants will provide clinical leadership to the CMHACS team, contributing to strategic development and ongoing development of the service and redesign as required to meet the needs of the care group.
The clinical responsibilities will include holding RMO responsibility for Adult Mental Health patients on the CMHACS caseload who are subject to compulsory measures under the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003. Assessment and review of patients, delegating responsibility to any resident doctors working within the team, and supporting any medical trainees or medical students attached to the team as per Royal College of Psychiatrists guidelines.
The post will involve contributing to, and at times leading the CMHACS daily (Monday-Friday) multidisciplinary team meetings, responsibility for prescribing psychiatric medication to individuals under the care of the CMHACS team, supervising non-medical prescribers within the team and considering the physical health of individuals under their care and liaison with GPs/specialists as appropriate.
Participation in the postgraduate teaching and supervision of medical staff and staff of other disciplines will also be encouraged. It is expected that the successful candidate will take part in continuing professional development. Participation in audit or research is encouraged. Hours of work will be standard non-premium hours but are subject to negotiation.
