Band 5 Registered Nurse- Childrens
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated childrens nurse to join the Childrens CF and Respiratory outpatients team.
The outpatient department cares for over a 1000 respiratory patients. It is one of the largest centres in the country for Cystic Fibrosis and is the northern centre for Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia. We also specialise in severe asthma, bronchiectasis, chronic lung disease, and long term ventilation. You will be part of a small but experienced nursing team who run and co-ordinate clinics for these patients.
You will also be part of a large respiratory multidisciplinary team who are passionate about making a difference to patients and their families lifes. You will become an important part of this team ensuring patients reach their potential through the high level care you will deliver.
The post provides an exciting opportunity to gain respiratory skills and expertise in the above conditions as well as having an opportunity to be involved in life changing research. To work collaborative with our research department to be pioneers within respiratory care.
Main duties of the job
The role is to work within the outpatient department, to facilitate a high standard of patient centred care, leading to a positive patient experience whilst coordinating timely effective care.
The role will involve working without band 6 supervision. You will take responsibility as the prime care provider for patients within the clinic and at all times promoting confidence in our commitment to provide excellent patient centred care.
The role will involve taking charge of the department as necessary in the absence of the other senior band 5.
You will participate in the in-service training, preceptorship & mentorship of junior staff, post basic learners & students as well as maintaining your personal development. The jobholder will work within an environment caring for infants/neonates, children and or young people, providing children or young person focused care.

Job responsibilities
The role is to work within the outpatient department, to provide smooth running of clinics. In order to do this, you will need to communicate effectively with the respiratory multidisciplinary team (MDT), co-ordinate the MDT, plan and access appropriate procedures, perform and assist with medical procedures (TIVAD flushes, blood tests, respiratory function tests, NiOx etc), ensure infection prevention procedures are followed, and the highest standard of care is delivered.

During acute attendance of patients to the department, you will be responsible to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care, and escalate their needs as appropriate.
You will work closely with the research team and work according to the Good Clinical Practice guidelines.
You will provide education and training to parents and patients on initiation of new treatments.
