Managers within Adult Health and Social Care provide a bridge between the strategic leadership of the Assistant Director and the front-line managers responsible for operational delivery of adult social care functions within various teams. This is a key role that ensures the Council’s vision and values are translated into practice, and also that objectives are fully informed by the day-to-day experiences of customers, carers and staff. The area of responsibility for a Service Manager may primarily relate to delivery of an assessment and professional support function (e.g. supporting social work and / or occupational therapy staff) or to a provider function (for instance the delivery of direct care or support in customer’s own home or in a community setting).
Key Responsibilities:
Ensure people can access support and information to help them manage their care needs, and know who to contact when they need help
Ensure people are supported to plan ahead and have the freedom to manage risks in the way that they wish
Ensure an enablement approach that means people are less dependent on intensive services 4. To ensure people manage their own support as much as they wish, so they are in control of what, how and when support is delivered to match their needs
Support managers and staff within the area of responsibility to translate strategic vision into operational delivery of high quality adult social care
Oversee the achievement of the outcomes of the AHSC Strategy for Sheffield citizens in contact with the area of responsibility
Ensure continual service improvement is based on the full involvement of customers, carers and staff in both quality assurance and service planning
Ensure strong people management across the area of responsibility, supporting leadership, development, innovation and learning at all levels
Ensure sustainable financial management across the area of responsibility, including efficient operation, robust forecasting and proactive planning
Qualifications:
Appropriate social Work qualification – i.e. Social Work Degree CQSW, CSS, DIPSW, and/or equivalent Management Qualification (a level 5 qualification e.g. NVQ 4 in management or substantial relevant experience
Social Work England registration
Knowledge:
Knowledge of strengths-based social care
Knowledge of ways of developing wellbeing and independence of vulnerable people
Knowledge of Making Safeguarding Personal
Knowledge of managing and leading people through change
Knowledge of complex systems leadership
Knowledge of social work principles and practice
Knowledge of personalisation of health and social care
Experience:
Substantial experience of managing teams in a social care or health setting
Substantial experience working in a setting that directly supports vulnerable adults
Skills & Abilities:
Able to demonstrate a clear and compelling commitment to improving outcomes
Able to work collaboratively and to create a positive and productive working environment
Able to empower direct reports and wider staff group to be innovative and to grow Interview
